Goodbye Internet

This is bad news for all of us..

Edit:
A good article on The Verge about this:

I wouldn't call it goodbye Internet though it is a ruling that I shake my head at.

evan 01-14-2014 06:53 PM

I watched personal computing and the internet rise and morph over the years from nothing. I'm a techie/IT guy/engineer. 80's child. This is a big deal and unless there is an intervention into this ruling, the internet as people currently know it will never be the same. Never mind the economical impact to the end users.

Rayme 01-14-2014 07:53 PM

This would only affect the USA eh. We're all getting screwed over here right now with stupendous pricing for broadband and cell/wireless internet. My 50$ per month DSL can't even stream netflix at 480p.

But hey, we can't honestly be surprised that yet another service will cost more money, and as usual, we're not obligated to buy into it. Shitty ruling nonetheless.

pcporo 01-14-2014 07:53 PM

so maybe it's "Goodbye websites that don't pay to not be throttled"?

evan 01-14-2014 08:01 PM

Goodbye Internet

This is not just about throttling. The most serious threat is around content control.

Internet service providers should not be in the business of regulating content. Why stop there? The potential for abuse is very high.

I think these images give you an idea of a non-neutral internet... Do you like how you pay for cable TV? Apply that logic to the internet:

I think there may be a future in VPN technology. I said it here first... I'm going to be pissed in a few years when the stock of foreign based companies that offer stateside VPN service go through the roof.

Shagaliscious 01-14-2014 09:25 PM

Looks like I might have to start paying for xvideos...heh, oh well.

sklimo 01-14-2014 10:12 PM

ZionsWrath 01-14-2014 10:56 PM

Shit, I'm gonna have to start talking to girls now?

Well at least I already bought my fleshlight...

Wonder what this would mean for torrent sites/users
