He also recalls they dropped it lower mid-generation when it wasn't selling but I only mentioned launch price thinking it would be more relevant.

They actually went cheap mode in the 97/98. Mine has the leather trim package and the nice cloth headliner and visors. The 97/98 went switched to a vinyl alternative.

I honestly agree with @vh_supra26 with the price range of 50-60K. Who knows but anything over 80K would not make sense and priced around M4 and C7 territory would be a hit.

I told my dad @CoolBRZ about that $40k sticker but he insists he remembers the $50k sticker likely because it was fully loaded.

So what power, weight, and price point would everyone like it to have? Toyota's hp for the dollar tends to not be as high as others (like Nissan) maybe at the expense of things such as reliabilty or efficiency. 200hp instead of 240hp sound familiar? (Though I'm content with 200hp.) Let's hope they don't 86 us again, right?

2900 lbs and 425 horsepower I think would be realistic, but that's pure conjecture.

Yeah and even Kevin Hunter mentioned a 50-60K range. This would put it just below the RC-F which makes sense.

I'm gonna take a wild guess and say 60K starting plus a 15K dealer markup because salesman are greedy bastards. :bellyroll:

Hopefully NEVER! :D

This is where we will need Clint to jump ships!

No thanks... American designed Japanese car looses the JDM heritage. Nissan did the same thing with the GTR and the Z cars.

I'll be honest the FT-1 concept makes the production 86 look dated lol. But comparing a concept to a production model is off base.

FT-HS concept (which the first FT-86 concept was based on) and the production FR-S are under Calty chief designer Alex Shen's portfolio according to this Autonews post: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...&postcount=335

:laughabove: That's a pretty lame statement.

So when Hunter attended a meeting of Toyota's top management in March 2012 for a design briefing, he gently borrowed Akio Toyoda's recent edict: No more boring cars. Toyoda had publicly expressed worry that the automaker had become saddled with a reputation for conservative vehicles that evoked as much emotion as a dishwasher.

The Toyota brand sells millions of Corollas, Camrys and compact pickups worldwide. But it had no spiritual pace car in its current portfolio. As he entered the management meeting room for his original pitch, Hunter thought to himself: What could be less boring than bringing back a sports car for the Toyota brand?

Hunter's idea was for a concept car that could generate excitement at an upcoming auto show. This would not be a flight of fancy, but a halo car that would tickle show-goers with the idea that Toyota might actually produce such a vehicle.

As he gave his presentation, Hunter watched for reactions. Toyoda seemed excited, as did Mitsuhisa Kato, Toyota's new executive r&d chief, as well as Hunter's boss, global design czar Tokuo Fukuichi.

After Hunter left the room, the gathered executives eyed their CEO, the scion of Toyota's founding family. Fukuichi asked Toyoda and Kato if they thought the concept was worthy of a green light.

Akio looked at his team, and said, "Let's do it."

is there a side skirts for the FR-s/BRZ/Gt-86 that looks like the FT-1 side skirts?

frs10 01-21-2014 11:47 AM

between 80-120k

that front grill is MEAN!

Hanni_0176 01-21-2014 01:00 PM

I think they should market the car in at least two trim's.

The Corvette has a base model (now Stingray), Z06, and ZR1 (not counting the Z51 package, etc). The original Supra had a base model and the TT model...

If they marketed more than one trim, they could price a base model version at $50-$60k to compete with the base model Corvette (i.e affordable to your average consumer), while also offering a high performance package to $80-$120k (i.e to compete with the GT-R and ZR1).

Win win for everybody...

I completely agree, if you can't buy this car for less than 80k they are going to be missing the mark, lets face it the new Stingray lays down some serious performance for 60k. If indeed this architecture is the BMW/Toyota they are going to want to come in under M4 pricing. Having a base model and then a dual turbo version would satisfy both a pretty broad range.

3350 lbs Curb weight
V8
450hp
450 lbs/ft
50k start out......

Now, unless Supra match those numbers...or close. Otherwise, I can see Toyota be struggling moving it off the lot

Gen 01-23-2014 01:02 AM

Quite honestly I don't think it's much of an issue with how many they move. If they make it, it's a halo car--a statement really. Pretty much just part of the marketing budget. It's a showcase of aesthetics and technology that trickles down to more affordable offerings.

Nissan has sold what, 7800 GTRs? I doubt that even covers their R&D. Part of it is to get the name into the headlines, part of it is to get people on dealership lots to see it, and part of it is to make the brand appear more exciting. Nissan sold something like 300,000 Altimas last year, but in terms of search popularity, in the past year the GTR and Altima are essentially tied.
