Small dent in exhaust leading to muffler

Don't hate me too much but while backing up my car at a parking lot with quite a bit of snow, I backed into a parking curb. Luckily it didn't touch any of the bumper at all (as far as I can tell) but the bottom of the muffler got a few shiny scratches (no biggie) but it seems to have slid under the muffler and put a slight dent into the curvy part of the mid pipe.

I'd estimate at max depth, ~1/3 of a cm dimple. Anyone with experience in bottoming out and denting the exhaust / share on any issues resulting from it?

I realize that yes, diameter is effectively reduced but can't be by much...will try and get some photos.

It was stock (thankfully) and I'll likely be replacing with a 2.5 perrin by summer.

Thanks

I would get it fixed personally. 1/3 of a cm is WAY beyond acceptable tolerances and will likely lead to premature muffler bearing failure....

I wouldn't worry about it.

I've put a few dents in my mid-pipe by creeping over my retarded driveway/sidewalk apex. It seems the mid-pipe is rather strong.

As far as restricting exhaust flow, I figure there are squashed parts of the OEM exhaust system, further upstream, that are more restrictive.

I'd suggest that you pull into those parking places forward ..... so that you can tell where the parking stop is .... by the sickening, screeching sound coming from the front clip as it gets torn up .... :eyebulge:

I do pull in haha, it's just that the one on the way back out of the spot was ridiculously close...(was the curb to a restaurant, not another parking spot). Whoever designed it really didn't give much clearance for people backing out.

1/3 of a CM would do that? As @humfrz stated below, just by feeling around the pipe I can see that OEM moulding has more restrictive spots than that to give ot clearance from the underbody at certain points that jut out.

EDIT: Looks like I should've read that more carefully. I see what you did there.. @Thorpedo

$300 apiece? That's why I get mine here:

Ok, so here's a photo - I'd probably escalate the damage to slightly above ~1/3 cm in max depth.

Thats nothing. Don't worry about it - your stock overpipe has worse pinches than that.

They always seem to go when you run out of blinker fluid too. That is the real PITA to refill to the proper amount
