Less than a month ago I scraped all the ice off my window. opened the door and closed it.
Out of the corner of my eye I saw a thin black strip appear on my window.
I realized what it was and squealed like a little girl.
The felt on the weather strip all ripped off the rubber and stuck to my window.
I scraped them off the window and saved them for my dealership to look at.

I've had the exact same problem, but nowhere near as bad. I hope this TSB completely replaces those strips.

Muskokan 01-21-2014 12:27 PM

hey guys if weve got a scratch going down the length of the window because we lost the felt strips can we go after them to fix this? and i read this this quick and didnt see an answer to the question

Is there a subaru tsb? part number? something to give them when most every brz owner tries to get a subaru dealership to do something, ANYTHING

Should be covered under your bumper-to-bumper warranty, if you still qualify for it.

I asked about this at my dealership but they told me they haven't received the replacement parts yet.

Any updates on the Subaru TSB or perhaps a link to the document? After the freeze in Tennessee last week I'm having issues now...

FYI, Subaru updated their version of this TSB with new part numbers as of 1/28/14.

Unfortunately, this appears to be a "safety" feature built in to the window indexing. There is a note about it in your owner's manual. However, with this fix, it looks like they reduced the distance the window drops, so it should seal better when it's frozen.

Anyone else get their weather stripping strip away?

Attachment 66285

It's almost the entire length of the seal and it'll suck the stripping in when it's wet or cold. The motor itself is fine.

dont have the link to the TSB but the TSB # is 07-79-13
I actually gave that # to my dealership and now my car is going in for it tomorrow to be replaced.

Thanks, sounds like that's what I'll try. Probably a good test for a different dealer since mine sucks so bad to see how they take care of it.

Do you have a link to it? Or can you attach it to a post in this thread?

My dealership is much more susceptible to doing the work if I hand them the TSB since otherwise they can never find them on their own :(

If you're a Subaru tech or have log in info to the Subaru Information System here is the link: http://techinfo.subaru.com/proxy/752...-07-79-13R.pdf

Parent Site where the TSB is listed: http://techinfo.subaru.com/static/whatsNew.html

doesn't really do any of us any good lol

In their defense, Subaru's search engine sucks. The bulletin is on the "What's New" page on STIS, they should be able to find it easily enough for at least the next month. And the correct bulletin number was posted above. If you bring that to them they should be able to look it up by number.

the whats new page was my 2nd link :)

my 1st link was to the correct bulletin, I just can't log in because I don't work there. Thanks though for your input. I don't think that's why they tend to turn me away though, lol.

If that was pointed at me, I didn't actually share anything... until now.

I got a local guy who has access to send it to me, so here is the TSB for Subaru:

Thanks. I just added it to the TSB thread.

This fix has been great for me. Much less moisture freezing inside of the car (still some as my commute is too short to really allow the dehumidifier to work or any snow in the car to melt). Windows aren't going into failsafe mode and getting stuck open/closed.

rxpx2012 02-11-2014 01:44 PM

I called today to have them order the parts for the window fix. Unfortunately they need to see it themselves since its warranty work they are claiming. So hopefully they freeze up for me soon.

jermyzy 02-19-2014 02:34 PM

Anybody what's involved in testing for defect? I'm bringing in my BRZ to get the taillights replaced due to condensation. I've had the window freezing happen in the past, they said they'll take a look at it when I get the taillights replaced, but temperatures here in Vancouver have already warmed up, so it won't be freezing by then.

Gunman 02-19-2014 08:51 PM

I talked to my dealer last friday, and they have the parts on order to fix mine. No word yet on when they will get them.

Thanks for the TSB.

If they're being sticklers about it since it's under warranty, don't reset the indexing when it acts up so you can show them that they aren't working. Personally, if a car comes in with that concern, there's no history of the repair, and the vehicle falls within the VIN range indicated by the bulletin, I perform the repair. Especially if it's caused by a temperature issue that is not present on the day the customer brings it in. :iono:

n0thing 02-26-2014 07:14 PM

doesn't make sense for them not to perform the tsb repair if the vehicle falls within the vin range. it's basically free work for the tech/advisor/customer, unless they are super busy or the advisor isn't aware of the tsb.

Muskokan 03-03-2014 10:46 AM

Ugh anybody in canada get anything done about their windows?

My weather stripping got destroyed, big scratches down the length of the window, nasty sound when it's wet because it's dragging rubber down.

So I was pumped when I saw there was a tsb for this, take it in, they can't find it. Fair enough considering they couldn't find anything to do with the fuel pump also.

So I go back with the tsb #, " that's American, means nothing to us". Well damn.

So now I got a message saying yea they have finally indeed found the Canadian tsb, aaaaaand my car isn't in the vin# range.

What are my options? All weather stripping is gone on drivers side, most on passenger, they do the freeze mode when it gets cold, I've got all the problems on the tsb but for whatever damn reason I'm not in the vin range, what gives and what would you guys do?

That's the number I gave my dealership and it masewell of been directions to Timmies, what dealer did you go to?

HunterGreene 03-03-2014 12:06 PM

Um...are you out of warranty? Because this is something that should be covered under your bumper-to-bumper warranty, regardless if there is a TSB for it.

Thunder Bay, Ontario Dealership. They had no problem with it at all...

Muskokan 03-03-2014 08:03 PM

I'm not out of warranty, they called me today to say the parts are ordered, just the usual trouble at dealerships. Here's hoping my baby comes out okay after it's done with.

Gunman 03-04-2014 09:11 PM

Parts came in, car goes in monday. Hopefully this works...as much as I don't like winter, I hope I have opportunity to see if it works before winter is over.

Just fix it yourself, the best warranty is the one not used. I have come to the stage of 100% self maintenance only a long block replacement would bring me in there and that just cause I don't have a cherry picker. But they'd probably deny it anyway.

Gunman 03-10-2014 08:45 PM

Had the service done today. So far the only thing I notice is the windows don't seem to drop quite as far. The true test comes with moisture and sub-freezing temps...hopefully not until next winter.

Gunman 03-18-2014 08:11 PM

Rain yesterday, sub freezing temps last night, so the car was coated in ice this morning.

Drum roll please...

Windows dropped, and functioned just the way they should. I'd say the fix worked, because on previous days like this, I would have been resetting them.

OURO3OROS 03-19-2014 09:18 PM

I made an appointment for this and when I showed up my dealer had never ordered the parts. Trying again next week
