Whats with the chicks and bro's driving...

Out of the 50+ frs/brz's I have seen on the road only a hand full have even acknowledged me.

First is that 70% of all frs drivers are chicks!!! Whats with that? Dam auto's...

Second are the college bro's wearing sunglasses that will be right next to you, yet won't wave back or even take a glance......

Thoughts?

olaHalo 01-11-2014 02:21 AM

I didnt know I was obligated to wave at people with the same car...

Turbo95eg6 01-11-2014 02:22 AM

Women driving cars?!?! Sheesh... The insanity. What's next, women being allowed to vote?

sprintertrueno86 01-11-2014 02:24 AM

I saw a 50+ yr old lady drive a white FRS :iono:

I also waved/thumbs up a FRS driver twice and he ignored me lol.

Luis_GT 01-11-2014 02:24 AM

I rarely look to my sides when I'm at a stop light... I usually concentrate on the light, to speed off the second it turns green, or on the asshole in front of me to get his ass moving...

tjohnson104 01-11-2014 02:26 AM

I think most people also wear sun glasses during the day. Not just college kids

I don't know about OP, but the sun bothers my eyes from time to time, and polarized sunglasses make being outside a lot more comfortable...

Pacific Auto 01-11-2014 02:28 AM

You guys are killing me...lol

oldpueblo 01-11-2014 02:32 AM

I didn't know women could only drive automatics, THANKS OBAMA.

m.box.design 01-11-2014 02:38 AM

i only wait for others to wave at me, because i dont want to be the creeper looking and waving over only to be ignored or stared at funny. :D

Pacific Auto 01-11-2014 02:51 AM

You signed the contract when you bought the car.

You are legally bind to:

Nod if frs is stock
Peace sign if frs has wheels
Thumbs up if frs has exhaust
Wave like a school girl if frs has forced induction

Not clear on your rules, are you saying if your car has these levels of mod, or the other driver's car has those levels of mod?

Wes 01-11-2014 03:07 AM

Mostly all the stock people ignores me lol. Modded car are the people more likely to saw whats up

modifications usually show that the driver is an enthusiast and may respond well to a wave or thumbs up, however that may not always be true. :D

I don't seem to have that problem ..... people are always waiving or yelling at me ..... sometimes it's because my cell phone is on top of my car, sometimes my gas door is open and the cap is dangling ..... but most of the time it's because I've left my turn signal on ...... http://www.runemasterstudios.com/gra...ages/whaat.gif

When people honk and "wave" at me is usually because I passed them on the right because they are driving slow on the fast lane. For those of you in Portland, OR... i.e. Hwy 26 westbound right after the tunnel.:iono:

fatoni 01-11-2014 03:35 AM

haha i love blaming autos for 70% of the drivers when autos arent in 70% of the cars. i would imagine people dont acknowledge you because of the way you feel about women and young adults.

cfusionpm 01-11-2014 04:55 AM

They're still relatively rare around here. I see one maybe once a week or so and generally give a quick peace sign and a nod. A couple of them live local and one of them happens to shop at my store. Small world!

Happy?...

turbobee 01-11-2014 05:03 AM

I think the waving rule only applies to motorcycles though I could be wrong xD

strat61caster 01-11-2014 05:48 AM

Agreed, I'm not trying to be an asshole I'm just in my own little world.

Sounds more like a stalker to me

AirborneDeth 01-11-2014 06:18 AM

I don't see Jeep stamped on the 86's anywhere.

kthxbai 01-11-2014 09:59 AM

OP I understand where you are coming from....hailing from chick-ville here, I hope how I perceive your observation is not skewed :). I grew up around gear heads and car enthusiasts my whole life, I learned quickly to acknowledge others with similar rides and notable rides. Perhaps, those who do not wave either are not comfortable doing so because they feel weird or like most who are still in their early owners phase, are just trying drive carefully.

I've been known to spot another FRS on the highway (or local) either coming from the other direction or passing me in the far lane and I still take the second to throw up some deuces or a thumbs up...but I've done that all my life. The town that I live in is tiny and I'm one of two FRS's I've seen in the almost 2 years this car has been out. Therefore, I still get excite and proud to see another triplet on the road.

P.S. My FRS is a 6M/T and still love driving it everyday even after a year of ownership.

Its a cheap good looking scion that comes in auto, there are going to be uninterested people who buy them and do not care about other owners. Unlike s2k, wrx, or vette drivers.

I wave or throw a peace sign up to other 86 drivers (if I notice them (sometimes miss waving because I recognize the car late)). I only get a return wave about half the time and the other half I am left hanging.

I don't think that age, gender, or transmission choice matter so much as if you are an enthusiast or not. Some people bought an 86 because they liked the car and no idea that websites like this even exist.

I am sure there is a percentage that are drivers that have zero clue of anything around them. I was driving behind my sister in our other car for about 2-3 km and despite me tailgating and waving she only realized it after me driving like a complete jerk. I think that there are many other completely oblivious drivers out there - it is actually kind of scary but true. How does one have no clue of any of their surroundings for several kilometers?

Maybe they can't see you thru the tint

Auto drivers are not all automatons. I drive AT and I am both an enthusiast and love to hoon.:burnrubber::thumbup:

My apologies. I didnt mean to generalize everyone into the same group, but you are in the minority there.

Way to generalize...

/edit: apology accepted^

It is funny that we have the same threads in other forums I've been in. I try to wave at other FR-S owners but mostly get ignored. It is more enthusiasts that wave back. This is the same in the Ferrari community. The Corvette community seems to have more comrade on the road. BMW Z4 owners seem to rarely wave back as well.

BlueDubbinTDI 01-11-2014 01:34 PM

This community has been around for only a year and half the people that own them just want to have the newest coolest looking car and don't give a fuck about anything or anyone else. The VW community is just the opposite. A bunch of true enthusiasts that actually care about cars and the community around them. It truly sucks this car attracted those people instead of the true enthusiast it was intended for.

VW has not made an enthusiast car in a long time. The MKVII holds more promise, but the majority of VW drivers I have met don't really care about cars.

The CC and GTI still have plenty of followers. The GLI has gotten awful since the mk4 unfortunately (which I still think is top 10 >$30k enthusiast car over the last 10 years). I think the GTI will always draw a crowd on sheer value alone.

It might be you are just meeting the wrong people. I have met and made alot of friends in the VW community who respect cars. But there will always be a few bad apples around where ever you go.
