modifications usually show that the driver is an enthusiast and may respond well to a wave or thumbs up, however that may not always be true. :D

When people honk and "wave" at me is usually because I passed them on the right because they are driving slow on the fast lane. For those of you in Portland, OR... i.e. Hwy 26 westbound right after the tunnel.:iono:

haha i love blaming autos for 70% of the drivers when autos arent in 70% of the cars. i would imagine people dont acknowledge you because of the way you feel about women and young adults.

They're still relatively rare around here. I see one maybe once a week or so and generally give a quick peace sign and a nod. A couple of them live local and one of them happens to shop at my store. Small world!

I think the waving rule only applies to motorcycles though I could be wrong xD

Agreed, I'm not trying to be an asshole I'm just in my own little world.

I don't see Jeep stamped on the 86's anywhere.

OP I understand where you are coming from....hailing from chick-ville here, I hope how I perceive your observation is not skewed :). I grew up around gear heads and car enthusiasts my whole life, I learned quickly to acknowledge others with similar rides and notable rides. Perhaps, those who do not wave either are not comfortable doing so because they feel weird or like most who are still in their early owners phase, are just trying drive carefully.
I've been known to spot another FRS on the highway (or local) either coming from the other direction or passing me in the far lane and I still take the second to throw up some deuces or a thumbs up...but I've done that all my life. The town that I live in is tiny and I'm one of two FRS's I've seen in the almost 2 years this car has been out. Therefore, I still get excite and proud to see another triplet on the road. P.S. My FRS is a 6M/T and still love driving it everyday even after a year of ownership. |
Its a cheap good looking scion that comes in auto, there are going to be uninterested people who buy them and do not care about other owners. Unlike s2k, wrx, or vette drivers.

I don't think that age, gender, or transmission choice matter so much as if you are an enthusiast or not. Some people bought an 86 because they liked the car and no idea that websites like this even exist. I am sure there is a percentage that are drivers that have zero clue of anything around them. I was driving behind my sister in our other car for about 2-3 km and despite me tailgating and waving she only realized it after me driving like a complete jerk. I think that there are many other completely oblivious drivers out there - it is actually kind of scary but true. How does one have no clue of any of their surroundings for several kilometers? |
