Pre-order help please
Need HELP on BRZ Pre-order
Okay, I went to one of the local BRZ dealerships. They said they are getting 6 total BRZ and I would be 3rd to get one. I told them I wanted the price of a DGM 6MT LTD model and they said there would be no MSRP markup. They then said they wouldn't feel right taking a preorder deposit from me because dealerships have no say in what color or what package (premium / limited). They also said no dealerships know and if someone said they could get me a DGM Ltd they would be lieing and taking a deposit based on a lie because noone knows what Subaru would give them. He also said it will be up to dealerships to trade with another dealership to get the car color I would want and he could just tell me in a few weeks if he had to do that. He also said they are such a reputable dealership that any other dealership would take my money but he would rather be honest with me and let me know. So my bullshit detector was telling me he doesn't want a deposit because they would have to honor the price of the car. Also, lets just say dealerships have to trade with one another. Wouldn't that start a bidding war between dealerships which would increase the cost of the car? Will your price only get honored if the cars they receive come in as an exact match of what you ordered. Can anyone give me an idea of what they know for sure? |
That is the first time I hear that the dealer won't take money :) However, the story maybe true.
I was given primary and secondary color choices in two dealerships where I went. Trim and transmission were locked, but color - wasn't. SoA is silent and we don't know in exactly what order cars and trims will be arriving. They say that earlier pre-orders are priority, but priority has a tendency to change ) At the very least, get something in writing from them. Anything. Or work on a backup plan with another dealer. |
I don't understand how the color can be a "maybe" when it is detailed in the VON with a code exactly like Trim and Transmission type.

Good questions..
There is no such things as "For Sure" with the BRZ and SOA recently. They have done a very poor job of passing out information, so we all try out best to peice things together. Here is what I think I "know" about the situation. You should be able to place an official order for the exact trim package and color that you desire. Subaru "should" be able to fulfill that order to your desire. However, they have always had a caveat in fine print saying that in some cases they may not be able to perfectly match all orders to vehicles. In this case, dealers have the option of trying to trade to best match their own orders. I believe most of us are under the impression that our order will be matched as we desire them. However, I'm sure there will be a few cases here and there that maybe have an incorrect color or something. What I don't get is how they have two pre-orders already, but don't want to take a 3rd from you? What did they do with the first two people? Strange.... I would have them put your order into the system asap. With a refundable deposit, you're out nothing if they can't deliver. |

Secondary color went onto the dealer pre-oder form, not the one they input into the SoA ordering system (to my knowledge). |
^ Thanks for the explanation.

I called my dealer this morning and talked to the sales manager he said they have no updates regarding the ETA of the car and they said they might be getting BRZs this May but they are not sure which car is it and who's it gonna be. So my understanding is that even though I'm no. 4 at my dealership I might get my car 1st or the no.3 will get his 1st. Maybe they will be given cars randomly...I just don't know for sure

here is what I posted in a different thread:
I sent SOA an email that asked, "Is the following information accurate? I got it from the cars101 site. "Each dealer has been given a fixed number of BRZs over the next 7 months (May-Nov 2012) which will be spread out so they don't all arrive at one time. The number of cars is based on the dealer's 2011 WRX/STI sales and overall volume. Extra orders in addition to the allotted number of cars may or may not get filled. The monthly total for the entire country is expected to be 540 cars and there are over 600 dealers so not all dealers will get a car each month. There is no VIP program available on the BRZ. from Subaru of America. It is important dealers fully understand the order filling process as you submit your sold orders. In summary, allocations for the 7 months May-November have been developed for each dealer. Fulfillment of a dealers allocation quantity will be spread basically pro-rata over the 7-month period and will not accelerate based on the number of sold orders submitted nor will it be reduced based on the number of sold orders other dealers submit. The most important factor is for individual dealers to ensure their sold orders are submitted in the order with which they want them filled. SOA will look to fill the oldest sold order within a dealer's allocation from the pool of cars available irrespective of when that order came in versus any other dealer's order." SOA answered, "That is the information that was provided by us to Subaru dealerships through our internal communications. The information is accurate." If a dealership tell someone that he or she is the first in line, and someone who later in the line gets a car first, it is because the dealership did not submit them to SOA in the correct order. |

The OPs dealer is just not knowledgable on the ordering process. OP: Talk to the sales manager and have them call SoA in front of you. They will walk them through the ordering process. |

Either way, a pre order locks in the color and pre orders will be filled first (if available, but I suspect Subaru has plenty of time to correctly build any pre 3/20/2012 orders), so the basically the only chance of that secondary happening is if someone ahead of you at that dealer ordered that spec and backs out. By the above I mean on a per dealership basis on the pre orders being filled first if submitted before 3/20/2012.. everything is per dealer. |
