Specs drop on 2015 Volkswagen Golf R for NA

They can be found here.

Salient points:

- both DSG and manual will be offered
- *only* 5 door version offered
- no Euro-type 8" navi - limited to optional 6.5" unit

Personally, no 3 door, no sale. Too bad, I was very interested in this car, the competition (WRX, BMW 235i, Mustang GT) are all too big to interest me. I'll have to keep waiting for the BRZ STI to drop.

I dunno... I still have a bad taste in my mouth from my old mkiv GTI, not sure I'd want to venture down that road again...

I hear you.

I looked at the GTI recently, just before I bought my FR-S. They only had a 5-door on the lot, and I said I was only interested in the 3-door. The salesman got aggravated and explained that everything was the same, including the wheelbase, and there was no difference so why didn't I want the 5-door? I was a little confused as to where all his passion came from. He didn't seem to understand that I just preferred 3-doors. :-l

I'm with you guys. This was on my short list for a second car until the only 5 door thing. I'll probably still give it a test drive but lack of a 3 door option is already a strike against it. What I really want is this Golf R with the scirocco body but that'll never happen.

Seriously? There is very little difference between the 2 and 4 in the looks department and what's the point of a hatchback without rear doors? The 4 door is the way to go here. It's a sporty car, not a sports car anyway. I'll probably look into it only for the DSG option, but will likely end up in a 2015 GTI instead. Stage 1 should be over 300tq. Enough said.

Because personally I'm just looking for a new version of one of these (G60 or VR6 Corrado):
