URGENT: BRZ won't start with blackvue dr550

Hey guys, need urgent help. I had a blackvue dr550 installed on my brz last month. My unlock/lock on my fob was occasionally not working, but no big deal, just had to get closer and press a couple extra times. Today I adjusted the power magic pro to 12 hours setting and replaced memory card with 64gb card. Tried to restart car, lights flashed on and off, but car would not start. Tried that a couple times and stopped. Gave 15 minutes break, then tried again. Now the car is dead!!! When I go in the car, the "battery" and "check oil" light flashes and there is a constant clicking sound in the front, but otherwise my car is dead. Need any help/advice!!!

You have a dead battery most likely. What did you set the cutoff voltage at? Even at 12V, on the stock battery, folks have had issues with the car starting. The stock battery just isn't good enough to start the car at 12V.

it was set at 11.8V, but it's a brand new car? Also, it was working literally 30 minutes before I tried to put in the new memory card. Also, what is that clicking noise?!

Have you tried moving the steering wheel? Sometimes the lock sticks

Clicking noise most likely means its your battery. Try jump starting it, thne you will know for sure.

Thanks guys, will try jump-starting it first. This will be a problem again in the future though with the blackvue installed? Do I need a new, stronger battery?

Are you sure that the Blackvue supports 64GB? It can cause the unit to draw too much. Check your fuses. I think I had an issue with the car not starting when I hardwired my Blackvue.

^Never got to try hahaha. It stopped working before I even got to test the new 64gb card. I read that it is supported if formatted to fat32 with 32kb allocation, which is what I did. Anyways, waiting for CAA to come jump the car...

Hey guys, confirmed battery was dead...I guess the camera was draining battery...has anybody had this happen to them before? I need it on 12 hr setting since I've been hit and run twice at work and I work 9-10 hours/day. I'll try setting it to 12v cutoff and see if it makes a difference. If not, what would be next step? upgrade battery?

Also, confirmed that 64GB card works if you reformat in fat32 format with 32kb allocation.

Nice to know. I have mine set to 72 hours with no issues.

Also which card did you get. I would like to get the additional space as it starts wiping over old video at 17 hrs with the 16gb card.

I got this one:

Use GUIformat to reformat in fat32 with 32kb allocation and it should be good to go.

How long do you drive your car/day for it to last 72 hours? I live close to work so only drive maybe 30 minutes round-trip/day on weekdays, might not be enough to charge my battery. I only have a battery tender jr which I use on my motorcycle battery. Would this be sufficient to get my car battery back up (it says can be used on compact cars) or should I buy a dedicated car battery charger?

chutrain 01-06-2014 04:18 PM

With the cold weather, it's also very taxing on the battery. 30 minute drive should be sufficient to charge the battery. I don't believe I had a scenario yet where I am leaving the car parked for more than 72 hours at a time, but with the recent snow it has been sitting a few days in snow, so I will give it a try and report.

The JR takes some time, but will charge. I charged my Legacy GT with the JR when it was completely dead, so I know it works.

I have had problems with my blackvue and power magic pro causing a flat battery a few times. My problem is that my daily commute is only a few minutes so the car doesn't get enough charge to overcome the car starting and the blackvues (x2) running.
I've got them set to 3hrs now I think and voltage to around 12v (can't recall the exact details sorry)
