6MT wont shift?

Car has 14000 miles and not driven too hard. I have not had any previous issues, then yesterday car wouldn't go into any gear while car is on, car off transmission works, no grinding or blockages. clutch still has pressure behind it. and no noises while trying to shift. any ideas. car is at dealership under warranty repair.

Let's see if I have this straight.

Your MT car will NOT go into gear if the engine is running, but it WILL go into gear if the engine is NOT running .. ??

If this is the case, that's above my pay grade ...http://www.runemasterstudios.com/gra...images/sad.gif

One thing I love about @humfrz on this forum, is that even though he might not know the answer, he will post to either have a little fun or lighten the mood.

Sounds like it could be a couple of things 1) pilot bearing is toast which is causing the input shaft to still spin even with the clutch in ( this happened to me with my Truck), or 2) your slave cylinder/clutch master cylinder is toast and not releasing the clutch by depressing the pressure plate.

Both possible.

Thread Starter:
What does the clutch fluid itself look like? Still yellow and transparent?

Car is at dealer? Let them figure it out then :)

Could be a broken clutch spring/assembly, manuf. defect.

White64Goat 01-06-2014 06:39 PM

I will be interested in the answer to this when you find out. I have a 2001 PT Cruiser that has been sitting in a garage for 3 years with the same problem. All hydraulics are working as I can see the fingers on the pressure plate move when the clutch is depressed. Didn't have the money to fix it when it happened and I had another car to drive, so it's been sitting.

I did check the clutch fluid and it was looking brand new. got a call from dealership, mechanics found broken clutch springs inside.... new clutch assembly ordered.

Shocked the dealer did not tell you the reason for the failure was because you were born.

Nope, that's not what I meant ... :)

Well, maybe the techs will find a defective part or something.

Are you the same humfrz from the Miata forums?? I think you are :)

I totaled my Miata on some slick roads so I am up for a new car...thinking the FR-S/BRZ. You must be in one now. Just wanted to say hi again ;)

Hi ya, bobaab,

Yep, the same old humfrz ..... after my miata, I got an FR-S; I wasn't quite ready for a Buick ..... yet .... ;)

Sorry to hear you lost your miata .....http://www.runemasterstudios.com/gra...images/sad.gif

I replied to your PM.

This is a good forum .... ther folks are generally a bit "younger", but they still tolerate my "back in the day" stories (I think).

If you go with a FR-S/BRZ, come join us .....
