E85 long term update
I was wanting to get the ecutek e85 tune on my frs and was wanting to know if anyone here has had any issues. Finding good and bad things when it comes to e85 when I do my research. If there has been water found in the gas tank ect..

i went through a few tanks of e85 on the oft tune. loved the power but hated the cold start issues. had trouble starting even at 60F. so switched back to 91oct. might try again in the spring unless there are some new updates on the tune.
other than cold start issues, ive never heard of any other problems from other e85 users. |

needs nothing. just run the tank down at least till the light turns on. fill up with e85. drive till the fuel trims start going way negative (-15 or so). pull over and flash the e85 tune and thats it.

from my experience on e85
Pros Cheaper. Nice kick in the higher rpms. Makes the car fun to drive. Fun to tell people that you only paid 30 bucks to fill your tank when they just paid 50-60 bucks. Cons Not enough stations around that offer it. Avg MPG is cut down(i went from 26-29mpg to about 21-23mpg) Cold start sucks ass I am on e85 right now(im dumb i should have switched before the storm) but my car would not start during the snow storm. I had to put like half a gallon of regular gasoline into the gas take and it finally started. but overall i love e85 and its worth the hassel in my opinon |
just to add my fuel economy was as low as 19mpg and ive run into others that are getting 17mpg

As for issues, we've not had any failures or issues nor heard of any from our folks. |
Moto-mike tuned my flex fuel kit. Get up to 26mpg on the highway on E85. Cold start is a little rough with the winter, but no issues when warmer.

Does anyone know if e15 or e30 is ok to run without a tune? Had a guy at cars/coffee tell me he is running e15 with no tune, aftermarket uel and header back system with a perrin cai and he dyno'd @ 175. Have Pm'd a couple of vendors but have not heard back.

I am also getting around 26 MPGs all around.
I will keep running this locally. At this point only long distance purposes will make me use 93 |
I personally would not run e15 or e30 in my car without a tune, or at least more information on how it works in this car. I am basing this off of how it negatively effects high performance motorcycles who's engines more closely replicate the twins as opposed to the Chevy Tahoe example referenced above. To me, it's not worth risking my motor to save a couple of bucks. Especially considering that a gallon of ethanol contains less energy than a gallon of pure gasoline. So running these intermediate blends will result in reduced power and fuel economy with the factory tune.
