Cheap and RWD? Initial cost or lifetime cost? I was going to suggest a Paseo because they are cheap upfront and parts are plentiful.

You're not being reasonable here.

1- Price
2- Reliability
3- Speed

Pick two. If no reliability is needed - Porsche? Old RX7? 93-95 3 Series? What kind of racing is this thing going into here?

I saw a fully race prepped Mazda 323 on sale for $1k CDn. Was very tempting.

Miata /

BlueDubbinTDI 01-05-2014 05:19 PM

RWD: any Z car you can afford. any 3 series you can afford. any Porsche you can afford. Any miata

FWD: any GTI you can afford. any cooper S you can afford.

AWD: any Quattro Audi TT you can afford. Any WRX/STI you can afford

Definitely a miata. At least that's what i'm planning on picking up as one. Just a great bang for your buck and so much potential.

kjdd787 01-05-2014 06:52 PM

Are you saying 2-3k MAX? That saying including Car + Parts = 2-3k?

If so, I'd say just buy some cheap car and call it a day. If 2-3k is your vehicle price, there are so many options to choose from. Miata, any sx series, fc rx7, mustang, impreza rs, historic muscle cars. A "Project" car should be something you have to build from the bottom, right?

AW-11 MR2. (I would get an 87+ due to better running gear)

Any Miata...they are a blast.

Something that can be really FUN to drive as well is a compact truck...like an S10 or Frontier etc etc...

I have had 2 first generation MR2s....loved them...miss them...
