VA tint laws?
 

So, I just got my car tinted and the shop that did it cut out a space for the 3rd brake light on my back window. Personally, i think it looks hideous. They didnt mention anything to me and I didn't notice it til i got back home. I called and they said they have to do that otherwise the car wont pass inspection. I have never heard such a thing.

Any of you with your car tinted in VA have issues with this? I am inclined to think they just didnt realize that the 3rd brake light could be easily removed. Either way I think I'm going to have them redo it.

My third brake light is tinted over. Light shines through tint. Had it inspected last July and it passed.

Gotcha, that's what i thought. I had my last car tinted 20% over the 3rd brake light and it passed too. Not sure what the guy was talking about.

He probably didn't want to redo the work. Also, I'm 35% rear and 50% rest. No windshield tint.

Yea thats what im thinking. Im 35% up front 18% rear and back window. Oops lol.

Back when I was shopping for tints, I called this place in VA for a quote. She did mention to me that they will have a cut out for the 3rd brake light.

When I was originally shopping around for tints, I ran into some shops that said they would do this, but upon being asked if they could cover the 3rd brake light anyway, none of them objected. 50 front/35 rear here.

I can safely say I've had no issues with tint covering my brake light, since it shines through all the same. I haven't even gotten bothered for running without a front tag... *knocks on wood*
