Rattle noise over 65mph (100kmh) on highway only
Hello to all!
Since October i have this very very cranky noise from the left side of my GT86... This weekend I traveled over 1,000 km on the highway, my head was going to explode... [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=STg76qmb8wM"]Toyota GT86 Rattle Noise over 100kmh - YouTube[/ame] The noise come out over 65mph (over 100kmh) and increases exponentially with the increase of speed... I removed the rear seat, side panels near the rear speaker and the lining of the trunk, but nothing, the noise is even stronger ... the toyota dealer obviously does not know what it might be and how to fix ... any ideas? thanks!! |
@Jackal84 it could be this
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=42065 Or if that doesn't fix it then this http://www.ft86club.com/forums/attac...1&d=1352827748 Has also been the rear seat pins for some that hold it in place at the top when you return them to the upright position after having them folded down. Make sure they are locked back in place by giving them a good shove. Some stuff on this here http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showt...ear+seat+noise |

Thanks for the answer! I've tried all of these solutions some time ago (for other noises actually) but none has improved the thing :( |
Ok @Jackal84 I have one more suggestion.
I had a noise that my dealer couldn't find after having my car for two weeks. This is what they finally did. They took it to a body shop that had electronic "listening" equipment. It pinpointed the direction the noise was coming from and they then fixed it for me. Try some body shops and see if one near you has this equipment. I assume you have had someone drive your car while you're in the back so the electronics may be the only answer. Personally I couldn't be driven while with a torch in the trunk but others have - too dangerous and claustrophobic for me. |
What do you mean by cranky? Is it a rattle/tapping sound? If so, does it change or become more noticeable in turbulent air (like a cross wind or when passing a large truck)?

Hmmmm.........from your video, I don't hear anything other than road noise ..... ??
Can you describe the sound more specifically .. ?? humfrz |

increases the volume you can clearly hear it, from 0.15, 0.27 and so on.. Today here in Italy is raining, so i can't take a serious video with my GoPro.. i will do that as soon i can. |
@Jackal84 It really seems like it could be the rear fender liners. Mine were making a similar noise, and it drove me nuts until I found it. Go to your local hardware store and pick up a handful of 5/16" (8MM) and 3/8" (10MM) neoprene (rubber) bolt washers. IIRC, you'll need about 10 of the 5/16" and 3 or 4 3/8" per side. Jack up your car and pull the wheel off on the side that is making the noise. There is a plastic liner inside the wheel well that is held in with plastic push pins. Pop these pins out one at a time, and slide one of the rubber washers over the pin, and put the pin back in. It may take a bit of effort to make the pin "lock" back in place. It should be pretty obvious which ones will need the larger washer (I think it is the ones that also hold the little flap in front of the rear wheel). If this is your problem, these washers will take up the slack and keep the fender liner from moving around. Hope this helps.
Edit: I just listened to your video, and I am 99% sure this is your problem. That sound jumped right out at me...made me mumble grrr under my breath. |

This seems to be a good indication!! So could be the rear fender plastic liner that over 65mhp begin to rattle... Vedo di fare questa cosa il prima possibile! Thanks!!!!!!! |

I hope you're really right! If I work out so I owe you one! The noise is really annoying on the highway, this weekend I have done over 1100km of road and my head was exploding ... |
It sounds like mine did. I would begin to notice it around 60 MPH, and it would get louder and more frequent as speed increased. Windy days and passing large trucks would also make it worse.
