Coolant below low line?
Hey guys. I recently noticed that I had low coolant, and wanted to see if anyone else had this issue.
The first time I noticed this issue my car wasn't running, and hadn't been started yet. I called subaru and they notified me that when the car has been running for a few minutes, it will go to normal levels. Just last weekend I noticed that it was below the "low" fill line after driving it 40 miles or so. Today after driving it home 50 miles, from work, there is no sign of coolant in the reservoir. The car has been running at normal temps, and doesn't seem to be over heating. I even changed my oil this morning and didn't notice any leaking fluids or funny smells. Could someone elaborate? I'm considering taking it in tomorrow in the am. |
If there's no coolant in the reservoir, there's something definitely wrong. Coolant doesn't evaporate that fast.

theres been some reports here coolant Disappearing

They simply topped it off and gave no real explanation. The service mgr. gave his business card and asked to to contact him if I had any further concerns..:iono: |
I've been tracking my Coolant actually, I first noticed it had dropped back in May (11 months after I bought the car). I was driving for about 8 hours straight on the interstate, when I stopped for Gas I saw a bunch of fluid underneath my car, checked and it appeared to be water. My coolant was in the normal range but had definitely dropped & engine temp was normal.
8 months later, my Coolant level is below the low line and I'm looking at buying some additional coolant in the next few days to top it off with the next oil change. No further signs of leakage have been noted. |

Thanks for your experience with this. I have an appt tomorrow so I'm kind of expecting the same "top off" service that everyone else got |
Mine has gradually gotten lower and lower and sometimes falls to the low line in the reservoir. If it drops below I will prob just add to it BC I know the dealer will not do much more than that anyway. I'm hoping there was air pockets in the system from the factory and the missing volume is just burped air.

What's up guys?
I just updated my other thread about the issue that I was having with my clutch squeaking noise. Just wanted to give an update on this issue as well. I brought my car into Irvine Subaru to have it looked at. The service advisor (Sebastian) was really helpful and professional. Didn't knock me for my light mods or anything. He said the tech found a leak in the water pump, which is unusual(in his words) for the BRZ. They're going to be ordering parts to fix the issues but will have to keep my car for a few days. At least I get a rental.. That's my update for now. I'll keep you guys posted. |
Ever since I got the car I've been seeing this and I just add coolant whenever it goes below the the top line.

Just noticed there is no coolant at all in the reservoir.... taking this to dealer has this car for 10 months

I am almost 99% sure that the issue is that they are adding the exact capacity of the engine and radiator when the car is shipped.
So just add coolant to whatever level you feel comfortable seeing it at and be done with it. If the car isn't overheating there isn't a problem. |
If there is at least some coolant in the reservoir, it's fine. It's called an overflow for a reason. When its empty, that is when you should take action.

Almost everyone I know locally has no coolant in their reservoir after being parked all night, but after taking it for a drive it's gone back up. If you are empty after driving it there is a problem, but if you check your radiator and it's full to the top when cold, and some fluid goes to the reservoir after getting up to temp, there is nothing to worry about. Top it off if it makes you feel better. |
