Lightweight crank pulley
So I am considering a lightweight pulley but just curious if its worth the money. Can guys/gals who have experience with this item give me your impression. Currently have drop in filter, front pipe, and openflash stage1.

It's a nice weight reduction imo and I like the looks of my Perrin LWCP. I see a lot of people selling them as well. I've had absolutely 0 issues with mine and it feels like it makes the throttle a little snappier. Don't expect a drastic change though.

The kartboy pulley whines like a supercharger. It was ok at first but I got tired of it after a while. Now it's sitting in my basement. The difference is noticeable but not huge.

I installed the Perrin pulley a few days ago. It was a super easy install and made a small but noticeable difference for me.
I find the car slightly easier to rev-match shifts, and the lurch you get when disengaging throttle in first and second gear is noticeably reduced. For the $100 price tag and easy install, I would say that you don't have much to lose. |

The problem with those pulleys is they have no harmonic balancer. The harmonics will, in the long run, destroy internals.
I took mine off after a few weeks. It did make the engine look good though. |
The boxer engine is naturally balanced from what i read and people have been running these for many miles

If so our race car with 30K miles, countless track miles and more abuse than most cars would see over 150K miles, especially with a supercharger. If true ours would have grenadeed by now, but it hasn't. Car myths from the 90's. :) BTW we run, Lightweight crank pulley, lightweight water pump pulley, lightweight alternator pulley, add a couple pulleys in for the supercharger, lightweight flywheel, lightweight wheels, different rotors, different wheels, different tires, different final gear, which all connect to the rotating mass of the crank. Zero issues... |

Yea I've seen that email before, thanks for posting it up again. Funny how people don't seem to remember this stuff, they always go back to the "harmonic balancer issue."

I want to stay NA so I looked at the pulley as part of a larger rotational mass diet including an aluminum driveshaft, aluminum flywheel and a set of rFP1s as well. So far I just have the pulley, Perrin drop in and nameless op/dp catted combo on the car, pulley has made the biggest difference by far. Definitely a good bang for your buck mod, and it makes hard shifts smoother as well. |
