Living in Mission (New FR-S)

Hey all!

I'm 6+ months new to SF, and I'm one day new to the FR-S

Over the years I went from an '08 Civic Si (FA5) to '07 350Z Roadster to '12 C350 Coupe. The last two cars were powerful V6's AT, so it's refreshing to be back in a high-revving 4-cylinder where I can row through 6 gears. Stoked that the community here is knowledgeable and welcoming!

I do have one major question though, can someone please, please, please provide pointers on parking? I'm still in LA celebrating the holidays and I haven't really figured out the parking situation and would certainly prefer some sort of reserved spot off the streets. I live in the Mission (20th/Guerrero) - any leads on good parking garages or advice? It would be so greatly appreciated.

:thanks:

David

Good luck with the parking. WAY to many people live in the Mission. You can try and find a garage at someone's house that might be willing to lend it out for a pretty penny.

Parking in the Mission area is SCARCE. If you're lucky, you can find a street parking spot in front of your home. Another thing you should get is a residential parking permit ASAP. It helps keep the meter maids away.

Thanks you guys, I'm hoping I can figure out something quickly. How has the street parking situation (seems inevitable at some points) been? I'm thinking of buying one of those hideous bumper bully/bumper armor pads that flip out the trunk for use when I'm parallel parked.

Granted, I'd stow it while driving so no worries there :)

The only thing you'll need to worry about is broken windows. It's a new trend all over SF. Just be smart about it. Also with street parking, you might get the bumper scratch from less skilled idiots once in a while.

Breaking windows is one of San Francisco's most sacred traditions!

Bumper scrapes from careless parallel parkers, door dings, and side-mirror knocks are the most common battle scars from street parking in the Mission. My DD has suffered repeatedly from all these ailments, but I could care less. I drive the FR-S a couple times a week to work out in the Mission for the last year, and somehow have lucked out and never had an incident, but I'm sure my day will come soon.

Anyway, street parking is tough in much of the Mission, especially around 16th and 24th streets. I'd look on Craigslist for a garage spot for rent. Expect to shell out a couple hundred each month though.

I don't know why ANYONE would want to own a nice car in the City. It's just asking for pain and suffering, knowing what will happen to your poor ride. I know it could happen anywhere, but the odds are not in your favor there. :iono:

But welcome to the Bay Area OP. :)

Sigh that's not very reassuring. But I figured I was gonna get a MINI and this was more fun and just as well priced. I'll try not to worry about it. I just want to garage park it and I'll be happy.
