car wont start, winjet to blame??

i highly doubt this is a headlight issue, but today being one day after i installed my winjet headlights, i was leaving Target and my car decided it didnt want to start. this is the first time this has ever happened to me with this car, so i got some jumper cables and got it going. i drove it home but along the way the abs light and stability light were on. so when i got home i turned it off and immediately tried to start it again, and nothing.. all the dash lights turn on so i have no idea what is going on. do these cars have a anti theft mode or something??? any advise or experience with this kind of thing would help.

thanks, Richard

It is possible that the Winjet headlights are causing an electrical issue. I saw a thread on here of someone who installed Buddy Club tail lights and it caused the ABS light and the stability light to be on the whole time, and it turned out it was a blown fuse, and the same fuse kept blowing even after replacements and even after a higher amp fuse. As far as I know, they didn't have a problem with the car not starting though.
It may be that the headlights are causing a different fuse to go out than the Buddy Club tail lights did on the other member's car. I'm not electrically savvy enough to tell you where to go about looking for the source, but I'm sure the fuse box may be a place to start.

ill start with that. thanks

A few of us from the SoCal Valley 86 were the first ones to have Winjet lights, and none of us have had a single problem. Keep us updated if you find out what went wrong, probably an electrical issue but a blown headlight fuse shouldnt keep the car from starting

Probably something you did during install go over your work....Battery disconnected? Is it loose?

7M-King 12-28-2013 08:03 PM

i checked damn near all the fuses and all are good. i checked the battery and it had 12.63 volts... thats ok right? could a splice cause issues like that? i installed the dyode dynamics foglight kit the same day while i had the bumper off, and spliced a wire or two that i didnt end up using. not sure if that would cause this issue.. it really seems to me like the car is in a anti theft mode or something. i can remote lock and unlock, all interior lights work, just doesnt want to start.

What kinda splicing did you do? Sure you didnt short something out? Are the battery terminals tight?

C130NAV 12-28-2013 09:14 PM

I don't think that's the issue but its not totally impossible as some wire require a certain resistance to work correctly. Also are you visually checking the fuses? Sometimes a hairline break can be found in the fuse that you will not see. This is why I often replace the fuses with the ones that light up when blown. Of course I don't change out my whole fuse box this way just the ones I mess with and any other replacements. Check your grounds. Do any other lights come on?

Please keep us updated.

i just did simple splicing that dyode dynamics directs you to do in there install video. but i did splice into the factory headlights before doing it on the winjets which is how they are now. one other one i did was a splice into the lower driving light above the fogs but that one didnt work. i drove the car alot yesterday after the install, and today after running a few errands it decided it didnt want to start. everything on the battery terminals is tight. and as for the fuses, i pulled out around 10 of them ranging from 7.5-25 and saw no blown fuses but it was getting dark so i might have missed something.. mind you, i didnt do the best patch job on the unused spliced wires.....

Maybe it's the unused spliced wires that are creating a short. Try repatching them properly and see what happens then.

I hope you get this sorted soon...this is why I really want plug and play (no splicing) for mods like this...

YDNA 12-29-2013 02:49 AM

i did some splicing as well, to get my fog lights to turn on with my winjet headlights and they're fine at the moment, double check the wiring

7M-King 12-29-2013 08:17 AM

Yeah i am going to recheck all the wires. Hopefully thats the issue.
