Magnets on the fuel line for better performance/economy?

Came across some Youtube vids that looked interesting. They claim apparently that installing magnets on the fuel line polarizes the fuel, making it burn cleaner? Something about magnetizing the fuel breaking up hydrocarbon clusters or some mumbo jumbo, but I'm intrigued.

If this did possibly work, maybe it's good for a few extra HP, or maybe some extra boost on FI cars?

Maybe it's hogwash, I don't know.

What do you think? Seems worth a try for $5 in magnets and a couple zip-ties.

My car's going on the dyno in a few days. Just installed an FB turbo kit, and I'm thinking of trying this just for fun.

Seems like snake oil...

The magnets might actually do something (not the fuel), so there won't be any actual improvement.

don't forget to put an intake tornado on there

SWEET! So I should see huge gains with both the Tornado and the magnets. lol

More like the soap used to clean pigs (hog wash) ;-) I would say. If it really works why isn't it installed on every car coming from the various factories? I am very careful about using YouTube as any kind standard of measurement for technical truth. PS this same nonsense has been around since the 1960's that I know of, so it is nothing new. It didn't work 50 years ago and most likely still doesn't. I believe one of the major car Mags (I do not remember when or which one did the review) did a review of this magical technology (along with about half a dozen other magical sales pitches) and surprise .... Not one of them worked! This might have also been a Myth Busters segment as well.

Haha the Tornado, haven't seen one in a while. Use to see one about every other week. Guess people got smarter.

Well, I put the magnets, the Tornado, AND Slick 50 in the oil, and I had so much extra power that when I hit 88 miles per hour, my car slipped into the past, or maybe another dimension, not sure yet...LOL

I know, but there's so many funny vids claiming so much goodnees! I wonder if you install enough of these gimmicks, whether you'll start seeing more gas in your tank than before you started with.

StormTrooper 12-27-2013 10:10 PM

I would hope my gas doesn't have a bunch of iron in it...otherwise the magnet would do less than nothing. (Add weight).

If it sounds like magic then it is.(pure fantasy).

mike the snake 12-27-2013 11:34 PM

Apparently, they claim that the fuel has a negative valence electron, and by magnetizing the gas it changes that valence electron to positive, which supposedly gives a better, cleaner burning fuel.

They mention it breaks up long strands or clumps of hydrocarbons? (I don't know, I flunked geometry lol)

It's funny how people take the piss out of this (which is fair enough) but at the same time will fit rota wheels for looks/performance (which they do neither)

Or will spend $1500 on an exhaust claiming that it makes the car much faster / more awesome.

Or will put $1000 coilovers in, and the car handles WAY better

It's all about what is/isn't accepted by the majority on forums. But hey, you're cheap mods than have made the car worse are exempt from ridicule?

At least these magnets wouldn't make the car worse. The same couldn't be said about the majority of mods, done by the majority.
