Rattling Engine Noise (Video with sound)
 

So three days ago I picked up my 2013 10 Series FR-S. I took it off the lot with about 50 miles on the ODO. FF to now and it's just shy of 300 at 280. Forgive me if this has already been discussed on here, but my car has been making this same exact noise from the video link below posted by another owner and I just want to know if this is normal? I also have yet to fill my first gas tank. Still has about 1/4 left since I left the dealership...

I'm going to be installing coil-overs on the car next week, but now I'm having setbacks because I do not want to void my warranty. However, I don't think the dealership can justify coil-overs being the factor of ruining an engine. Still, if it voids warranty, it voids warranty. At the end of the day It's out of my hands.


Thoughts?? Is this normal? Will it go away? :(

Should I take it to the dealership?

Any help or tips are greatly appreciated...thanks

A ticking noise is normal for the high pressure fuel pump. No repair needed.

I have the same noise on my 10 Series FRS and i have about 500 miles on my FRS.

Side note: Were you the one that gave me a thumbs up on the 605? haha

Ah, I feel a bit more relieved now. I'm not familiar with the boxer engine, but my inner instinct feels like it may be normal. Luckily, the dealership still owes me a free detail since I picked the car up right before closing the day before x-mas eve. I'll probably pick their brain when I take it down after the new year and just ask for an inspection while they're making her nice and pretty.

...Unfortunately, I don't think that was me. :/

Ticking noise that sounds like a tractor is normal. Sometimes I like to pretend that I'm driving a tractor somewhere on a farm infested with crickets at a red light, and then pretend I'm driving a porsche 911 once that light turns green.

I wouldn't let a dealer ever wash the car. It's 100% guarantee PAINT DAMAGE. They wash cars all day long, all the dirt from wiping on the other cars will be WIPED ONTO YOUR CAR.

All that dirt from another car being moved around on your new paint, leaving all these microscratches.

The only thing I would let the dealership do is just spray my car down with spotless water and then air dry it. No towel from the dealer shall ever touch my car.

You can ask about the engine, but as you should know, the engine is a Subaru engine so they might not be familiar with it. What dealer do you plan on taking it to? Toyota of DTLA?

Heck, I used to be a service tech for Toyota and I've never came across a boxer engine at the dealership LOL

It's funny, the first thing I talked about with my sales guy was high quality wash cloths. I got a good deal with a haggle-free experience, plus it being the holidays and all I tipped him nicely after all the papers were signed. He told me I get two years worth of free car washes and that he would also give me a set of these expensive wash cloths. There was one raven FR-S on the lot I remember that already had some visible swirls.

As far as getting a detail, maybe it'll be safer to wait until he brings over those fancy towels? :iono:

Great advice here. Yeah, it looks like I'm going to get my hands dirty this weekend hand washing her head to toe. It's sad to think about poor quality workmanship coming out of a car dealership. On the bright side, my sales guy promised to order me really high quality wash cloths. We'll see how it goes...

Lol! My sales guy actually owns an FR-S himself. He's rather old (shall I use the word experienced instead) anyways, he was a really kind man.. No bullsh#t like younger salesman you know? Told me he has a guy that he usually gives a phone number to where he sells these things, but promised to get me a few on the house. Can't say no to that! :party0030:

Yeah don't let them wash your car.... It was so bullshit the other day i took my car in for oil change. Came out to retrieve my car only to see teenage girls wiping down rims and paint with the same towel. Asdfghjkll?!

I saw this at Longo.... I saw teenage kids with some sort of spray bottle and a towel wiping down windows, the paint, AND rims with the same towel.
