OEM Front License Plate bracket installation
I received an $86 (ironic) no front plate ticket by parking enforcement, which is enough for me to put the plate on. I dislike the offset Perrin/Grimmspeed mounts and taking off the front bumper to glue magnets on is too much hassle.
Curious if anyone knows the proper procedure (more importantly, proper screws) to screw that OEM bracket on. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. |
^$144 for me. Never put it on tho.

I had been ticketed in the past, so I just mounted mine with the stock plate mount. I just used two self tapping screws ~1/4" thread ~1/2 long in the lower half of the plate where it screws into the black plastic grill and some double stick tape on the top so it won't scratch (and can be peeled off by the next owner).

Zip ties works wonders

DANG Fife PD will do anything to make money .....:paddle:
I just put mine on the grill (centered), with the OEM bracket. As I recall, I placed the bracket upside down (by design) .... I think I used the screws/bolts that came with it......then again, maybe I didn't ...... hey, that was a LONG time ago .... 9 months ago ..... I think ..... now WHERE did I put my meds .... I think it's time.....http://www.runemasterstudios.com/gra...illy_nilly.gif humfrz |
All of the hardware and bracket should be in the rear cargo area or under floor.
1. Install the bracket loose. 2. Mark the center of the holes. I use a spring loaded awl. 3. Drill the holes - 1/2" drill bit 4. Install drop in expansion anchors - The longer ones. 5. Push the bracket up against the bumper and screw in the 10mm screws 6. Put the plate on with the supplied screws. There will be two small screws that have 10.9 JH on the heads and two small drop in anchors that you will not use and throw away. You should be able to go to your local dealer for assistance or where you purchased. |

By the way, I thought this was a "fix-it" ticket so I always assumed it would be cheaper on the first offense. |

I picked up my BRZ in July, and got pulled over in November for no front plate (CT). To me it wasn't worth the hassle of getting pulled over again for that, so I put the stock bracket on. I also added a Weathertech clear cover, so the plate doesn't get dented up down the road. To me the BRZ looks fine with the front plate bracket, since we have the black "mustache" anyway. I hate the side-mount brackets. I think in the future, someone will make a repop adhesive cover for the bumper mustache anyway, so you can hide the holes if you want to.

This is exactly how i did mine but without the top bolts. On the BRZ it might mount a bit different but the zip ties through the center of the bracket are plenty strong to hold it. mine has been on there for a while and its just fine. Merry Christmas by the way :) |
I got an $80 citation from a meeter maid for no front plate. I'm actually going into court next week to contest it since it's been over two months since I've sent in my written explanation, and I haven't heard anything back from them despite them withdrawing the money from my bank account for the bail.
I zip-tied mine to the front - like others have said if you fit it right below the solid plastic panel of the upper bumper you can attach it without it resting on, or scraping the paint at the bottom - albeit barely. |
