You know it's a good forum when you take your car to the dealership to get something fixed and they have no clue what's wrong. They check their manuals and their stuff on the computers and still can't figure it out. Then you look from the waiting area and they are looking at ft86 club and voila they figure it out. Thought it was funny so I had to share.

Service manager at my dealer is on here. Don't know his name though but he told me the forum has helped them numerous times

Yea that's what the one at my dealership was telling me to. He said most of the time he just jumps straight on nasioc or here rather than going through all of the service manuals.

Hmm, that highlights an issue with the way Subaru makes available the internal wealth of information to their dealers.

Same issue with most large companies involving tech stuff and massive dealer networks.

What was the issue btw?

fitcious 12-23-2013 06:33 PM

crickets.

My passenger window froze over and stayed cracked.

You mean you took the car to a dealer for something that is covered in the owner's manual?

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=53176

A weird circle of "not reading the manual" becoming "dealer reads forum post that says to read the manual to someone else with the same issue".

That's cool some service professional are tuned in to the forums. It is a great resource.

Not the only resource, mind you.

Yea I got the window back up but while I have a warranty that covers the whole car I think I'm gonna use it. They ended replacing everything for my windows under warranty. So yes it is covered in the manual but why not use a warranty every chance you get just saying.

Test: What would you do if the car doesn't start?

Because my time is far more valuable and taking the car to the dealer for every little issue is a huge inconvenience. I'll make my list and have them taken care of all at once when I have a more significant issue or right before the warranty ends.

I agree.

And this is a car specific forum and a fairly mature crowd so information is shared pretty openly.

I disagree with that second part. Id say as much as 30% of this forum has the 86 as their first car and are, need i say, clueless? The 1 post with the clicking 5-10 minutes after shutting off the car still makes me laugh...

I agree - tt's very hard to say that most of the forum is mature enough to discuss issues but at least it is still a data mine that can be excavated for nuggets of information.

That's the problem with the internet age. Everyone things they are everything and know everything yet no one has application experience.
