CSG's Jackson Racing "Factory Tuned" Supercharger experience, updated 12/19/2013
You can follow our build thread at http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=53891
Installation thoughts - The kit was very easy to install. It took me about 8 hours, start to finish, taking my sweet time, taking some photos (and sending it to other CSG staff to upload to our facebook), and taking notes. This includes time spent to install EcuTek Software on my laptop, flashing, burping the system, everything. - Fitment was dead on. Zero additional parts were necessary. - I was able to complete the install, alone, on my garage floor, with nothing but basic tools. I am not a mechanic, but I am the "DIY" type, where I do everything at least once, so that I understand how to fix it or at least address it if something goes wrong. - Instructions come in a series of small steps, and then are illustrated with a single picture, that shows exactly how everything should look. I referenced the pictures several times to make sure I had everything installed and routed exactly how Jackson Racing intended. Initial Impressions - The kit is quiet. You'll hear the supercharger slightly during the "warm up" phase after initial startup, but after that you will almost never hear it. - You WILL hear the supercharger under these conditions: -- High RPM (over 4.5k) -- Low speeds (under 10 mph) - You won't really hear the supercharger with the windows closed and music on. - The kit just keep growing in power as you rev up, but you won't feel it at all. As the RPMs climb, the power keeps building. Notes - Partial throttle cruising power is SUBSTANTIALLY increased. You'll notice increased power under street driving conditions - WOT response is instantaneous, as is expected with a supercharger. - Nobody knows this car is boosted. - The car starts, idles, and runs exactly the way it does stock. Those of you guys who have run aftermarket boost or big turbos in the past know how important this is! - The intake for the Jackson Racing kit is NOT A HOT AIR INTAKE. The filter is located exactly behind the stock intake hole, where the stock intake sucks in its air from. The filter is NOT sucking in hot air. It does mix with air going through the radiator, but when you're moving, you have cold air going directly to the filter. I took this picture while driving around town to get a feel for the kit. It is PROOF, that the intake location works. When installing the kit myself, I realized that the stock intake hole is why they specifically chose this place to put the intake filter. MAP = Manifold Air Pressure (pressure inside intake manifold; ambient air + boost in this case in PSI) BARO = Barometric pressure (ambient air pressure in PSI) IAT = Intake Air Temp (in Fahrenheit degrees) AAT = Ambient Air Temp (in Fahrenheit degrees) https://scontent-b-sjc.xx.fbcdn.net/...80700313_n.jpg Tools used: - 1/4" drive ratchet -- 8mm, 10mm, 14mm sockets - 3/8" drive ratchet -- 10mm, 12mm sockets -- 6" extension - 1/2" drive ratchet -- 14mm socket, 19mm socket - Cordless impact (for taking of wheels) - pliers - knife - small flathead screwdriver and small philips screwdriver Dyno - This is the CARB legal tune that is included with the "Factory Tuned" version of the kit. - The car is 100% stock, except for the Jackson Racing Supercharger kit and the CARB legal tune - Even the engine oil is the factory fill. - The torque dip is essentially completely eliminated - Powerband is far more linear than stock - +70whp and +40wtq! https://fbcdn-sphotos-e-a.akamaihd.n...85657793_o.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.n...82018179_n.jpg https://scontent-a-sjc.xx.fbcdn.net/...02256504_n.jpg https://scontent-a-sjc.xx.fbcdn.net/...24754044_n.jpg https://scontent-b-sjc.xx.fbcdn.net/...85408929_n.jpg https://scontent-b-sjc.xx.fbcdn.net/...58803276_n.jpg |
Nice job! I probably already know the answer to this question, but would a p&l or nameless long tube header fit up the front grill or would the ic get in the way. I'm header shopping, but really stoked on the jackson/kraftwerks sc. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Please keep in mind that with a catless header, you'll need to get the car custom tuned; you should not use the available CARB tune. |

Instead, I spent the day breaking in the SC on local roads, and doing a lot of dataloggin to make sure everything is going well. |
If anyone wants specific pics, or data, or testing, I'll be more than happy to do it if it's within my means.
Keep in mind that this is CSG's car, not mine, and that it is on loan to me for the next few days for me to get an impression of the kit on an otherwise completely stock car. I've been given an allowance of $200 in gas (total for break-in and SC testing), and I've already gone through about $120 of it breaking in the car and doing initial testing. The car is currently at just over 1000 miles, and just over 100 miles on the SC. |
I am disappoint.
Thats srsly all the pic's you felt like posting? Show that bad boy off! |

I just reposted pics that were uploaded to the CSG facebook page over the weekend... :p |
Those intake temperatures look fantastic, I wasn't expecting those to be that good.
Did you leave the stock intake in the bumper? I can't wait to see the dynos. |

Nice little writeup, I am 90% now convinced this may be best fit(for me) and my needs. This or the KW, definetly liking the Rotrex anyhow.
|
