tapping sound coming from engine
 

there is a non constant tapping sound i think coming from one of my valves. i have brought it to Toyota and Subaru and they don't know what it is. the tapping comes and goes. i can only hear it at idle cause i have a exhaust and cant hear anything over it.

Ask a mechanic to take a look at the flux capacitor. That's probably where the noise is coming from.

It could be the HPFP (High Pressure Fuel Pump) trying to do it's "cricket" thing...??

I could be a normal sound that an engine makes ..??

I wouldn't worry about it .... unless it gets louder.

i put a turbo on it and change the injectors and fuel pump and it still makes the noise

With that "exhaust" of yours, it's a wonder you can hear anything ....:D

These cars have 2 fuel pumps.... one is in the gas tank and another high pressure unit under the hood, which is know to make chirping/ticking noises sometimes.

I had the same issue ... I took it back to the dealership and three days later I was driving a new FR-S. The dealership did not know what is was, but knew I would be a pain in the ass and figured a buy-back and replacement was in order.

Now I understand that it has something to do with the fuel pump and is normal.

Can it chirp and tick at the same time like that and its when ever it want to, I had the dealer replace the one in the engine already but they replaced it with a louder chirping one

Most likely the injectors. They are very loud at idle (particularly after market ones), but quiet up when you start moving. Completely normal.

It happens when its warmed up too
