RPM drops twice after shifting to 3nd gear at ~2500 RPM

I'm not sure if it's a real issue, or just my lack of knowledge, but here goes.

I have an AT (...yeah I know), but like to drive it in "M" mode because I like to pretend I have an MT (lol, j/k). Also I like to shift gears as early and quickly as possible (when the conditions permit) in order to save some gas on my daily commute. Anyways, I noticed that when I shift from 2nd to 3rd gear at around 2.5K RPM, the RPM drops twice. Like it shifts from 2nd gear to a nonexisting 2 1/2 gear, and then to 3rd gear. This does not happen when I shift at around 3K RPM (RPM just drops once like normal). Easy solution would be to stop driving like a grandpa and shift at at higher RPM, but I was just wondering if this is normal operation. If so, why is it necessary?

Thanks!

It's your lack of knowledge as you put it. The transmission shifts and then the torque converter locks-up. It's not shifting twice.

I have the same thing in 4th in my AT. Its normal from what i understand. It happens to me based on throttle input i think.
