Don't know if repost.

LAS VEGAS – The all-new Scion FR-S rear-drive sports car should sell at a rate of 10,000-20,000 units annually, a top official says.

“We’re confident we can sell every one we get our hands on,” Jack Hollis, Scion vice president, says at a media preview for the car here.
Scion projects it will sell more than 10,000 FR-S coupes during the remainder of 2012 and about 20,000 next year. The FR-S goes on sale at 1,000 U.S. Scion dealers June 1.

I think it'll sell better than that.

For comparision, between 1999 and 2006 Mazda sold 20,123 Miatas annually with peaks of 51,658 (introduction of 1st model) and 36,450 (intro of 2nd gen). Personally I think the FR-S has somewhat broader market appeal.

It's not a matter of selling. It's a matter of manufacturing. The Subaru factories are already over capacity and can't make the cars fast enough to meet the demand.

20k units is about all they will be able to sale each year...maybe a bit more. There won't be much of a waiting list. Hopefully subaru can make about 12k units of the BRZ..

Well this means there should essentially be no supply shortage....I wonder what FR-S pre-order numbers were.

If I remember right it took 5 years (93-98) to get a total of 12K MKIV Supras to the US.

Jack mentioned 1243 sold already at the thing Ichitaka was at in Vegas. I think it's more than that already, but Scion dealers aren't marking down the deposits as orders. I know the dealers I've talked to are just going to call people on the list the day a car arrives and say "we have a car can you come in?"

Im hoping Ill be able to get mine sometime in the fall. Haven't got my name on a list yet, mostly because there are a number of Toyota/Scion dealers in my area that will be selling the FR-S(with varying reputations), and if these numbers are and estimates are accurate I might be able to walk right in and pick one up.

20,000 worldwide, possibly but not likely....USA and Canada alone, no way....at atleast $25k a pop, there are similar options out there.....they might sell well starting out but eventually sale will drop off....i don't see there are constant high demands out there even though the car is good and I'll get one....marketing hypes....

I hope so too...I want to be able to buy a BRZ up right when I'm ready later this year...

Unless the FR-S is insanely faster than the BRZ, i will go BRZ because it is a much better deal. $3k difference between the FR-S and BRZ limited is not much when you consider how much more you are getting. Financing that difference is nothing.

Even if Subaru only makes 6,000 BRZ's a year (they are not, it will be more like 12k units a year) there will be plenty to go around. Nissan does not even sell 12,000 370Z's per year in the USA.

Also when you add the Bespoke to the FR-S you are real close to $26k, same price as a BRZ premium which comes with a real navigation system and HID headlights.

Not saying you should get the Bespoke, but a bet a lot of people will consider it.

I think the cars are going to sell good, but 32k total units per year is a lot of these cars. People should be go crazy and pay $5k over MSRP to get one!

The Supra was a $50k car in the 90's, which would be ~$70k in today's dollars. So that seems pretty useless for predicting FRS sales.

I think the FR-S sales will be better in the second model year but the price could go up...
