I am also interested in retaining the DRL too. I have the winjet headlights also. I have found one way

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=44066

I am wondering if theres a simpler way than that.

The winjet headlights... can you change the LED bulb in the LED STRIP?

slava 01-13-2014 01:47 AM

Will these fit on BRZ?

I was actually thinking about using the actual ft86 or 10 series headlights.

At this point, I would go with the win jet. The black housing looks better than the stock GT86 housing anyway. You can sell your BRZ headlights for quite a bit more and make a little profit for mods :burnrubber::burnrubber:

slava 01-13-2014 12:00 PM

Il surprised no one has done this yet. Or have they?

Save some money, get the winjets.

They'll physically fit, but you'll need to put a turn signal somewhere. Yours are integrated in the stock headlights, the FRS/GT86 have the turn signals separate in the bumper.

914_WHITE_FRS 01-13-2014 06:42 PM

so if the DRL are built in the winjet headlights can you opened it up and change the bulb?

Buy them, try it and let us know

headlikeahole 01-13-2014 07:58 PM

Any suggestions for ultramarine with chromium black wheels? I'm completely torn between black and chrome housing.

On one hand black look mean as hell, but on the other chrome looks more authentic 86... tough call.

Fett4Real 01-13-2014 08:23 PM

With the word that the chrome is sketchy I was thinking of tinting the chrome...

It is possible to switch out the LED if there is a problem,

Not easy but it can be done - Also I bet we can get this bar for warranty and service of the Winjets

How did you open them up? baking? heat gun? Any issues with heat as it pertains to the LED strip?

I baked them and used a heat gun. Had no issues with LED. However, they do not use same type of sealant as OEM. They use a rubber gasket and what looks to be a very thin bead of silicon caulk. I was surprised. Could be why some people have moisture problems. Not sure you even need to heat them up to open. I sealed back up with OEM type OCI Burly rubber.

Looks good! I was waiting for someone to do this. Step by step DIY?

tC2FR-S 01-17-2014 08:14 PM

I didn't try it without baking them but I think you can just out take the 6 screws out in the back of the light and pull them apart with some elbow grease. It looked like it was just caulk holding it in so I don't see how applying heat would loosen it up
I've opened up Acura TL, Acura TSX, Honda s2000, Scion tc, and the FR-S lights and none of them were sealed like the winjets.
And yes I had a few minor issues with the chrome peeling off. I just had to touch up a few small spots with silver paint to cover up the black plastic that became exposed. I still would do it again if I had too because I really like the look. I would just say use high quality painters tape for delicate surfaces, take your time, only tape where necessary, again peel away really slowly? And finally, take the tape off within a few hours of your final coat of paint. Don't leave it on overnight.

I am going to open up my passenger light when I get some time. The rotation of the projector is a little off. I can take more pics then. It wasn't easy fitting a TL projector in there. Basically had to cut the original mounting bracket down to where it there was very little left and had to cut the bottom of the bracket totally off so the bixenon solenoid could fit. I was a little nervous the projector and bracket would vibrate for lack of support however I used a lot JB Kwik weld and have no problems now.

Here's a couple of other pics I originally took during the project

914_WHITE_FRS 01-18-2014 12:00 AM

if you had a whiteout fr-s will you go chrome winjets or black?

Ryan86 01-18-2014 12:13 AM

Do you want a change or keep OEM look.

Black for change
Chrome foe OEM.

We have opened up several sets and it really needs to be heated - some have been harder to get apart than others. So we would say heat them up :)

I was browsing my retrofit forum and came across some interesting threads, one was about how little of an amount of water it takes to fog up a housing. Was some chevy impala lights but didn't take a couple drops to fog it up completely.. I was reading through and it seems like a lot of retrofitters use silica gel pack much like these

http://www.theretrofitsource.com/sil...l#.UtttBX876K0

They can be found anywhere, and I know it's shouldn't be a solution, but cheap insurance for anyone that might have condensation issues.. Once I'm finished with my set I'll add a couple pouches

DarkCard 01-19-2014 02:45 AM

I'd like to see more chrome pics if anyone has em?

Gixxersixxerman 01-19-2014 02:48 AM

Also notice the ones complaining the most on this thread, and other winjet threads, are the ones that paid $1200+ for lights that look almost the same... The OEM owners lol
