I'm pretty sure OEM are closer to 5000K in color than 4300K.

4300K would produce a warm white color, there's nothing warm about the OEM led strip.

I find that the Winjet LED strip is around 5500K, which is the temperature used with Volkswagen LED lighting.

The LED strip is likely 5000k, the headlight bulbs are 4300K; as there are clear physical differences in light output.

Anyone thought about painting the chrome versions like the JDM/EDM?

I painted my chrome ones. I will warn you that the chrome is extremely delicate and peeled off ridiculously easy even with 3m tape for delicate surfaces. I have painted the OEM ones as well no problem

IMO - its not blueish at all - most of the kits we did HID 5K was a good match.

The OEM standard bulbs have a yellowish ting as they should and maybe they make the LEDS look more blue.

Thanks for that info what kind of tape did you use? Painters or masking?

3m blue painters tape for delicate surfaces. I wrap as much of the headlight in newspaper as you can and use as little tape as possible.

I can get JDM 86 lights for a decent price, used. With ballasts and bulbs usually. It just takes some searching around.

And apparently people freaking out about the "ZOMG RHD lights blinding people and you go to jail!", yea so apparently these lights auto levels them selves, and since the FR-S does not have a levelizer like in the JDM GT86, they seem to just be in a "default" setting type and the light cut-off is perfect for LHD as well. I've sold 2 sets already, its not voodoo magic.

Can you find black ones? And if so can you PM how much they cost?

ecko04 01-12-2014 03:59 PM

How do you retain the LED strip (DRL) with the low beams? I know they come on with the high beam but how do you keep them for the low beam as well? Figured I'd ask instead of taking my DMM to them.

I am also interested in retaining the DRL too. I have the winjet headlights also. I have found one way

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=44066

I am wondering if theres a simpler way than that.

The winjet headlights... can you change the LED bulb in the LED STRIP?

slava 01-13-2014 01:47 AM

Will these fit on BRZ?
