Is carbon fiber ricey?

I'm thinking about getting a vented hood so when I go for a supercharger I won't be running into heat issues. What is your opinion on a carbon fiber hood I was going to have the hood painted and just leave the vents alone but I don't know.

You'll be good if its painted and the vents CF. Full CF is a bit ricey if the car is not black.

IMO

Meh.

Depends on the application.

While accents of it on a OEM car from factory are nice, sometimes lightly modified with carbon fiber bits on a car can look good.

Wrap is obvious and i don't quite like it.

I'm just a firm believer on if you're not going for the weight savings, then just forget about it.

I think cooling is another good reason.

Supercharger will add a ton more heat to the engine bay.

Planning on doing this with my Ultramarine when I get some more cash, regardless of whether or not I get a supercharger/turbo.

SmsAlSuwaidi 12-18-2013 01:48 AM

big time, even oem carbon fiber is. Its unnecessary

Who cares what other people might consider "rice?" At the end of the day, it's your car, your money, and your taste. There's nothing wrong with wanting things because they just plain-ol just look good. If every mod had to be strictly performance oriented, why don't we have better drivers on the road?

Faux carbon fiber vinyl wrap = yes
real stuff = no

I think real cf parts on a street car is more baller status than anything. I tend to do a double take if I happen to see real cf on cars, the real stuff is pretty rare to see around here. Cf also gets hazy and cloudy quickly so Ide recommend paint, its worth it (I had a cf hood and trunk on my mk4 GLI, wrapped it in satin black vinyl and left accents of the real stuff, looked really good imo).

dry carbon no, wet carbon yes.

BoostinIX 12-18-2013 08:15 AM

So....you're basing a large purchase on other people's opinions of how it looks?

If it's not a show car tailoring to a specific group of likes, then run whatever the hell you want and be proud of it.

Just do whatever you want.
