What Feul produce the best performance?

Was wondering what feul do you use? Should be an interesting post?
Sasol
Shell
BP
Caltex

Very interesting topic and well worth discussing.

For 1 year I used only Shell, got great fuel cons and performance through tuning was great. Then when Nitro was launched, it happened to be during my SC install and while tuning, we found the timing had to be pulled back so much to compensate for poor quality fuel.

I ran out the remainder of Shell Nitro and filled Engen Primax, back on the dyno, tuned perfectly and got best gains to date.

we have had 4 cars tested on Shell, all lost gains.

Even a 135 fully tuned running 300wkw on our dyno on Engen put Shell Nitro and got 255wkw. Ran out Shell and put Engen, back up to 300wkw.

Based on DBN Engen.
In JHB Engen seems to ping, shows on our dyno charts.

JHB last dyno event I used Sasol and got really good results at altitude.

Interesting topic. :)

At Nelspruit altitude (700m), Engen works best and most consistently for me.
I agree with Ryan - Shell Nitro is terrible, and my car very noticeably retards timing on Shell.

After our 7000km road trip around the country, and using a variety of fuels at various altitudes, I found:

That my car is extremely sensitive to fuel quality.
Shell Nitro was consistently bad everywhere.
Sasol was sometimes good and sometimes very bad (inconsistent).
The other brands seemed similar, but I'd still get a bad batch from time to time.
I've started doubting what's in some filling stations tanks.
Because it says 95 on the pump... well, I'm not sure.

When I get home later, I'll upload a dyno chart which illustrates how much our cars adjust for bad fuel.

Up here Engen pulls timing on top end and Shell Nitro gives bad consumption so I'm sticking to Sasol.

Very good feedback, I swapped now to Shell to see what it does... But agree had good results on Sasol, did not try Engen yet.

You should see the zigzags up top with Engen. :eyebulge: Was wondering what was going on then the dyno operator asked if I was running Engen because they've seen it before.

I use BP because it happens to be the closest gas station to my house. It is also the newest one around with new pumps so therefore I feel like I'm getting the cleanest gas possible. ;) Also I only use 93 octane and have not had any problems car runs great.

Interesting topic.

Quick question: At altitude (Gauteng specifically), is there any difference between 93 and 95 on these cars?

I thought there was only 95 on coast and Reef. Did not see 93 on my last visit. Unless Sasol only do 95.
Obviously you want to run highest RON. If you look in the fuel cap it indicates use 98 Ron only...
