Dealer wants to do a launch event around delivering car to me

Hmmm... my dealer wants to do a launch event around me receiving my car on May 11th. Includes using my name on radio etc. I'm thinking I don't need the publicity. I guess if they were to throw in all the options I want, it might be worth it. But there aren't any options at launch worth anything. Mud flaps and an ashtray... meh, I think my privacy is worth more. Spoiler and TRD springs would definitely make me consider but those don't come out until later this year.

Any of you other guys have dealers asking similar things?

Our dealer asked us about a press event too (no lunch or party) I said sure sounds lie a win win for us as so long as you'er willing to do something nice for missy like the price on the board for the FR-S could be changed for a moment while we sing some papers. It did not sound like he was going to go for thoe. It was worth a shot thoe. Is it just me or do others also feel that you just got to try too get a better deal out of thoes guys (i.e. salesmem).

My local dealer is throwing a party for a first 86 winner.

Which dealership? Launch event could be cool, to share the wealth and etc with other fellow enthusiasts, but name on the radio I dunno about that.

Way back when we first signed the paperwork and dropped off the deposit, my dealer also mentioned something about there possibly being media present at delivery. I'm pretty sure I made a not-so subtle "I don't like the sound of that" facial grimace and matching whine. Still don't like the idea of being singled out.

If you don't want it then there is absolutely nobody who can force you to participate.

Toyota of Kirkland (WA). Yeah, I'm thinking I'll pass with name on radio. I'm going to stop in today to talk to them.

Only way I would agree to do it is if there was something in it for me, particularly with my dealership that wants to charge me a $600 doc fee, and has been like pulling teeth to get any attention.

At this point, I'm already going to threaten that if they don't reduce the fee I'm going to tell anyone who asks that I got the car from a different dealership.

No lawyer here, but I am pretty sure they would have to get you to sign a disclosure to use your name and likeness first. Most scenarios like that are when you win something, not when you are going to pick up something you paid good money for. If you opt out there should be nothing they can do.

Personally I would say no thanks, especially to using your name on the radio, wtf? You've already bought the car, you don't owe them anything else. I'm not huge on attention and a bunch of strangers holding a media event congratulating me on buying a car sounds weird. IMO.

Def Cool stuff ! They want it Fun and Special event for us :) Nice option if one wanted to take part vs nothing at all I look at it!

I was told 2nd or 3rd week of May so far is all I have heard here on W Side of Washington...

Glad I'm not the only one who feels this way.

It's now a "launch event" for the car and not specific to handing me keys. I'll pick up the car a day or two earlier (when it comes in basically) and then I will bring the car down to the local mall on May 12th where they are doing a Scion car show with an unveiling of my car as a launch for the FR-S. I'm fine with that as it puts me mostly in the background.

I tried to negotiate for "accessories/DealerOptions at cost for a year" with the Scion sales manager but he gave me the line that he can't charge anyone any different for anything. I think they like that response a lot. He did throw in some free detailing at an unspecified future date.

I'd get anything these dealers say for extras IN WRITING!
