best budget cat-back exhaust!
Here's my review of a cat-back exhaust I bought from (http://www.topspeedauto.com) They're a local shop here in town that imports these. Retail is around 400 bucks.
link to ebay auction: Stainless tips: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Scion-FRS-Su...item565f1470f7 Burnt tips: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Scion-FRS-Su...item5af62079f6 So far I've had this for about two months now and 1000 miles. The system has performed flawlessly so I can safely write this review as I'm very happy with the exhaust. Normally I never buy cheap parts as I'm a firm believer in you get what you pay for. Since I've known the owner of Top Speed and he insured me the quality and fitment then I decided to give it a try. I needed something with better flow and better looking 4.5" exhaust tips to fill in the stock diffuser. I was also looking for something quiet because I drive it a lot and getting in and out of the neighborhood I don't want to be obnoxious. My other cars are already ridiculously loud. A bit of my experience with exhaust systems. I've had high end exhaust for my previous bmws. Active x pipe & Akrapovic axleback for the E92 M3 (retail: $5500) Eisenmann Race axleback for the F10 M5 (retail: $4200) Akrapovic gt4 xpipe & Eisenmann inconnel axle back for the E90 M3 (retail: $11,000) In comparison, this 400$ Top Speed cat back system for the BRZ was the best bang for the buck I've ever spent on an exhaust. The fitment was spot on! Hardware was all included. Even the flanges were ported. The welds were top notch. Install was as simple as it gets. Put it up on race ramps, spray wd-40 on the rubber bushings to get them out, unbolt old exhaust, install new exhaust. It took about 10 minutes. Here's a video I made: [ame]http://youtu.be/dAngKm1-wdg[/ame] Exhaust is a bit dirty there but I drive my car pretty hard :) http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5491/1...79bf23c6_c.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7413/1...e1cf80bd_c.jpg http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2844/1...06344b14_c.jpg Weld quality! http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2806/1...e7c74f6a_c.jpg Ported flanges. http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5529/1...b8b6e0e5_c.jpg resonator http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7306/1...4df9423f_c.jpg hardware & gasket http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3714/1...2f91e64d_c.jpg On the ramp for install. http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3786/1...a6596233_c.jpg old vs new http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5500/1...a888a123_c.jpg Installed in about 10 minutes. It was pretty simple. There's 4 x 14mm bolts holding it on with some 12mm nuts. Very straight forward. Use some WD-40 to loosen the rubber mounts and it will pop right out. http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2891/1...34bb1fd8_c.jpg 4.5" burnt tips http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3701/1...cf302f37_c.jpg http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3809/1...22856124_c.jpg http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2860/1...8beb6c18_c.jpg |
Sweet! I've been eyeing these since they posted them on Facebook. Good to finally see a video thanks!
They look and sound quiet like the Q300. I guess for the price i will get it! :party0030: |
Here's an update. I just picked up the race version of this exhaust for some spirited driving on weekends. The quiet version was nice because I can hear the blow off from the turbo better. However, this one is much louder and 2.5" piping made a significant difference for exhaust flow. It now has some backfire so I'll need to get it tuned. Yes, it does drone so I would not recommend if you daily it and have low tolerance to noise.

Looks nice. Don't suppose you know the weight of the overall setup? TIA

Hmm good question. I don't know. I just got it and installed it without any reason to weigh it. lol. My best guess would be that it probably weighs same as the Nvidia or similar stainless exhaust. |

On topic: do you know what the piping diameter is? Also I'm a bit confused these are imported or made by a local shop? |
Quote:
They're imported. The warehouse is local here in Addison, TX. Piping diameter is 60mm or 2.36 inches from their ebay page. |
