The high-lighted portion really got me wondering. I am not sure if this is a sarcastic remarks or actually the author really means that we should entrust our lives to the *professional drivers* (truck drivers) while doing others things like Facebook or Twitter. If doing FB or Twitter is more important that driving, take a bus or train! |
the keyword in the article to consider is: autonomously
granted, the highlighted part is kinda stupid (working on world peace, one exit at a time) does it really not make sense to you that highways would be more efficient if the gap between cars were safely and automatically controlled? one idiot tapping on his brakes in the flow of smooth traffic can ripple and cause an absolutely pointless jam further down the road. like in the movie minority report - if cars could enter an autonomous mode while on major highways, traffic could be greatly reduced by eliminating human error, stupidity, and inattention. whether volvo (lol) can actually design a competent system is a completely different matter. unless government mandated, i doubt we'll see anything like this in the real world. |
Sounds great to me. Weren't they already testing something like this a few years ago in dedicated lanes in California?

So all i got out of this is that fast moving bumper to bumper traffic is the way to go...
