Seatbelt sensor going off with no passenger

So I recently purchased a greddy evo3 exhaust for my frs. I had the silencers in for about two weeks and didn't like the way it sounded so I took them off last night and no sooner than doing that my seatbelt sensor started going off. Could these two be tied into each other in any way?

Did you place something on your passenger seat?

Cell phone in passenger seat?

Cell phone should not trigger it. Usually something over 35lbs should only trigger it.

I would have the dealer look into.

Cell phone definitely triggers it. Something between the electronics sets it off. Many members have had this.

Our car uses a capacitance type occupant detection sensor. Anything that interferes with the electrical field generated by the sensor can affect it. Cellphones included, especially when charging.

So I tried placing my phone on the seat and sure enough it set it off and vise versa. Thanks for the help

Mine only sets it off when its plugged into the charger and sitting directly on the seat. Funny enough, if its sitting on top of a newspaper or something thicker, it won't set the sensor off.

That explains it for me too. I've always thought it was so sensitive that the weight of my cellphone ( and usually other very light miscellaneous items) was making the very annoying passenger dealt belt warning thing go off.
