Winter= Static = Dust
 

After having my car polished and waxed. I noticed a lot of micro dust accumulating on my car. Cold winter weather with dry conditions here in Socal seems to create a lot of static and my car attracted lots of dust. I could stand out side and wash my car, but who wants to battle the elements and freeze your ass off doing that?!
First I contacted online retailers and they all suggested a microfiber cloth such as this high end product. http://i964.photobucket.com/albums/a...psc06eab6f.jpg
Cost... about $35 with a promise of good dust pickup. All it did was push dust around and I had to use spray detailer or other liquids to pickup the dust. I didn't like the idea of that. My goal was to pick up dust with no efforts.
Next I tried a more traditional duster. Nothing fancy, just picked one up at target for about $5.

This again, really didn't do much...Just moved dust from one end to another.

Then I had a lightbulb moment walking down isles of target...how about a swifter duster? It claims to pickup dust? and if it doesn't work I'll just return it or use it around the house?

Behold! The swifter duster!! This item really picked up most of the dust on the outside of the car and didn't use any high end detailing products. The best part is you can use this inside and out. The duster really does work well. Remember results may vary, but if you have a smooth surface after detailing. It works wonders

Not at all... Just be gentle. Its very light weight

I'd be too scared, rather wash it once a week.

I love the swiffer for the dash. Works great!

I've had a lot of dust set in within 5 days of washing it, literally DUSTY like I drove through a farm field or something. If I don't touch it, it doesn't look bad but when you wipe a bit you can see the difference. Solution? The microfiber I was using seemed to caused static and attracted more dust. I think that was the solution to mine, after switching towels and trying to not cause as much static while wiping it seemed to help. I also use a polymer spray after washing my car and that could've had a lot to do with it also. I only do that once in a while now.

I feel you on the dust though, having just moved here from the east coast, dust is bad all year here.

Another tip to help with the static is to make up a ground strap you can clip to the exhaust tip when you pull in the garage etc, run the other end into the earth.. wiping the car down with a microfiber creates more static as does polishing the car. So the swiffers are a great idea :clap:

Oh my god, you might be my hero...I live here is so cal and it's frustrating how right after you wash the car the dust just starts to set in...I'll try it out for myself but it looks promising!
