Borla UEL header + TRD Exhaust

I had a hard time finding examples of a UEL Header with a TRD Catback, so now that I've installed them, I figured I would post up a sound clip in case anyone else was looking. It's a 2013 BRZ with a Takeda intake, Borla UEL Header and a TRD Catback. Everything else is stock

A drive-by is not possible because the car is stored for the winter. And before anyone asks, no it wasn't a suicide attempt and the garage was ventilated :)

Exhaust sounds really nice, I hear the slight rumble as you rev the engine higher.
By the way, how's the Borla quality? Were the header flanges flat?

I only have Q300 and Injen intake installed, but I want to get header sometime in Spring. I would assume I'll get the similar sound since Q300 is a bit quieter than TRD exhaust? I couldn't find Borla UEL + Q300 catback combo. Most people straight upgraded their exhaust with full exhaust system, which sounds very loud.. Anyways, thanks for the video.

Add a testpipe and it will be music to your ears.

Sounds so good!

Honestly, I would put the build quality as average or just above average, but the appearance would be below average. The fit is excellent and It bolted up perfectly with no issues, however, some of the welds look kind of sketchy and that dull Borla finish isn't winning it any beauty contests. I knew all of that ahead of time from other reviews saying the same thing, but I really didn't care because it's hidden under the engine and the Borla warranty is excellent.

Where can you even buy this exhaust?

The Borla UEL header is fairly easy to come across. I think there's even some Group buys going on and a "used" un-installed one in the Members Classifieds. As for the TRD Exhaust, you can get it online anywhere that sells TRD parts or look in the Members Classifieds for someone getting rid of one.

Think this one has a catless front pipe though. Volume will be lower with a catted pipe or resonated.

I'm doing this setup with a JDL UEL, JDL Overpipe, Invidia Catted Front Pipe, and Q300 next week or so.

HAHA! :laughabove:

That car sounds BEAST. As someone said, get a test pipe on there....a little extra pop.

Should sound nice between those short shifts ;)

Thanks:burnrubber:

By test pipe, are you guys referring to removing the secondary cat between the mid-pipe and over-pipe?

Edit:

The front pipe in this image?

Yep...for whatever reason, everyone decided to call the test pipe (known as test pipe on almost every other platform) a "front pipe" on the FRS/BRZ. Sounds like someone did a direct translation from the 86 when it was released and never corrected it, everyone just went along with it to not look stupid haha :D

I thought the generic term "test pipe" referred to any cat-less "test pipe" that replaces the section of exhaust pipe containing a cat? On the 2nd gen Scion XB this pipe was called "the scuba tank" because the secondary cat was incorporated into a resonator chamber that outwardly looked like a scuba tank.

BTW, to the OP, your exhaust sounds great!

Anorexic 86 12-14-2013 03:09 AM

Sounds good...

I only wish the TRD mid-pipe wasn't smaller than the stock exhaust.

Wow...that's not really very good :( This would be awful for a turbo setup.
