Ozzy Tyres (buyer beware)

Hi guys, I just wanted to share my experience from dealing with this mob. Yesterday I placed an order for a set of 225/45/17 Pirelli PZero's which were going for $665 delivered to Perth. I figured why not since it was a pretty good deal and their website says shipping would take 5-7 working days. Fair enough.

Then this morning I received a text message asking me to ring them (they couldn't even ring me?). When I called, the guy said there's a backlog with their usual freight company and that if I still wanted my tyres by next week I'd have to pay $80 extra to use a different freight company. WTF?

Now I don't know how often they practice this BS but it smells to me like some money grabbing scheme....knowing very well that customers would want their orders in before Xmas.

He said I didn't have to pay the extra, but he couldn't guarantee delivery....could even be in early Jan!!! Normally I wouldn't be in a hurry, but I've already taken a deposit from someone who want to purchase my current tyres. So I told him it was unacceptable, but negotiated the additional delivery fees down to $50.

During the whole conversation he didn't even sound apologetic, and even told me that WA is very far and the shipping is too expensive! REALLY? Then why advertise your prices with free delivery Australia wide???

Anyway he said my tyres will be delivered by next Friday.....so we'll see :paddle:

Just wanted to add that it's companies like this that makes me prefer to purchase stuff from overseas. And this isn't the first Aussie based online store I've had issues with. I've had much better customer service from some American vendors...in some cases you wouldn't believe the amount of effort they put into getting your sale and the amount of after sales service they provide to you.

Had dealings with them before, service was actually pretty good. But product I'm certain was very old stock, hence the much cheaper price. I also purchased P-Zeros and they had no grip on them what so ever and slid out on a 20km turn. Not certain but heard their tires are all grey imported.

I don't think you received bad service at all. The fact they took the extra step to let you know their standard courier was having difficulties in the busiest time of year for freight and postage, and offered you a solution is a good thing. You are taking it the wrong way, and seem very negative. Maybe you shouldn't sell things before having replacements and back yourself into a corner.
They would have a service contract with their chosen courier service which offers them lower than standard rates (hence the free postage Aus wide claim), but not so with the backup company, which is why they were asking you to cough up the difference.

I've had issues with Ozzy in the past with trying over the top push a set of wheels on me that they had instock instead of the specific ones I wanted.
I have also heard the grey import rumor; it on some of their stock in makes sense. Their prices on some big brand tyres are so much cheaper than others (even big chain tyre shops with solid buying power) that it seems too good to be true.

Thanks. Perhaps I may have over-reacted in posting my rants above, but I've searched online and found reviews from other buyers who have experienced similar tactics as what they used on me.

But anyway, even if they really had issues with their chosen couriers, the fact is a sale transaction was made based on what was advertised....so if they have freight issues and it will cost more to deliver through a different company, they should have absorbed the additional costs to have the items delivered as advertised.

It's not the customers fault or problem that the seller has freight issues....it's the seller's problem to deal with without asking more money from the customer.

Tyres have a 2 digit week/year date stamped on the sidewall - never buy old stock tyres as rubber gets harder with age & grip levels taper right off :/ New tyres should only be a few months old.

Thanks....i'll check when it arrives.

Over-reacted Fizz?
I don't think so...
I ordered from them a set of KMC XD's for my Hilux in 17x 8 with tyres.
A week later they rang me to say the drilling of the stud holes had been stuffed up and they didn't have a replacement wheel in Aus. so they wanted to send me a set of 18x9's for the same price.
I asked if they were sure they'd fit to which they of course replied "No drama"
Wheels arrived in Melbourne about 10 days later so I took 'em to TTF to get fitted up.
But they didn't fit inside the guards-Big surprise!
Much phone action later and 18x9's got sent back, they offered me a set of KMC 775's in 18x8. A different wheel altogether but still looked good. They arrived in Melbourne THREE WEEKS LATER ( had to threaten and initiate recovery action through my Credit Card issuer) and to my surprise they actually fitted my car..BUT..The stud holes had not been drilled deep enough and the wheel nuts only held on by 2 turns. They wanted me to send them back for rectification to the stud holes.
They were told to jam it and as I'm a Fitter and Turner, I drilled the holes myself on a mill.
NEVER EVER AGAIN.

Helpful thread, was actually contemplating getting a "package" deal through them, now seems that might double my chances of getting bent over.

Can't speak for wheels but I bought a set of 235/40/17 KU31 Kumho's off these guys.

Price was good.

Tyres were delivered in 4 days so quite promptly.

Date Stamp reads 4713 So they're only 2 months old.
