This trip was obviously done before the multi-car comparison test we previously discussed. I find it interesting that the main thing that guy in the video can complain about is the sound of the car.
Also, as we mentioned on the other thread, the issue of doing this test with an automatic transmission is coming to light again. Especially with scene where the host is executing a pass. I maintain that the BRZ/FR-S were really meant to have the manual gearboxes. They are lighter and have better gearing profiles to match the engine power and torque curves. |
For contrast, same reviewer on the track.

He might have been happier with the "engine" if they gave him a manual. By some accounts it seems 0.5 - 1.0 sec faster 0-60.

When he goes to overtake though he has downshifted and is at high revs so the gear box makes very little difference.
Yes it would have got a better review if it had been the MT but whilst I would hardly call EVO always unbiased they do focus about the joy/thrill of driving a great car down the right road. The road in question is likely if it is in the UK or Europe (and especially the group test roads) to have a fair few blind corners so it is not possible to carry as much speed through them as if it were a race track and hence a car with average acceleration can but frustrating especially if the chassis is cable of so much more. Henry was very positive in the track test of the GT86 and if you compare that to the BRZ tests on real roads it is clear that the they consider the car to be a great chassis let down by the engine (and transmission) that means it is well within its limits on real roads which is the opposite of the hype. I haven't seen any other reviews that test either the Toyota/Scion or the Subaru on a proper road rather than a track so until then I will take the EVO review as an important insight that the rest have missed. |
I thought the video was pretty boring....Hopefully they'll have a video of Tiff flogging it around and really get a good break down of the car.

You know what? I sort of want these reviews to stop already...

I noticed their version of the BRZ doesn't come with NAV standard.

Evo needs Chris Harris. He punches that guy in the balls
