Powdercoating OEM wheels

Hey, has anyone powdercoated their wheels black? I just ordered a black gts and I'm deciding wether or not I should do them a glossy black or a matte black? Decisions decisions! I don't think I'll be plasti-dipping either. Thanks.

i powdercoated mine NightSky Matt. Wish I'd have done it months ago. Very happy with the results. Fortunatley I spend a lot of money with this powdercoater so it didn't cost me a cent. $80.00 to get tyres removed, reiftted then wheels balanced so well worth it.

Looks awesome. I would much rather head this way than plasti-dip. I can't decide gloss black or matte but this is perfect! Thanks!

You can basically buy a new set of wheels for the cost of powder coat...

Wow they look great @deadcat . I hate the two-tone factory finish.

After trying to get my rims on my last vehicle powder coated, I am a bit nervous getting any kind of wheel powder coated. Ended up with some nice 4 x $650 OEM rims (18x8 forged aluminum alloy) becoming nothing more then paperweights/showroom rims. The person who did it claimed that he has been in the powder coating business for years and never had a customer with an issue like mine. Basically, after my rims got powder coated, they lost their integrity and warped. Had them 'fix' just to warp again within a week

@ OP: Rims look nice. Hope they hold up.

That black/red contrast is sick

Powdercoater did say same o me but added that with all of the 100's sets wheels he has done it has only happened twice. so thought risk was minimal. In my opinion it was well worth it

Also, keep in my mind that wheels are all made differently. The wheels on the BRZ/FR-S are not aluminum forged, which require a lower baking temp then others. From what I have seen on the internet, aluminum forged should NOT be powder coated, but there have been people who have had them powder coated successfully. I, unfortunately, was not one of them.

I would love to powder coat my stock rims on the BRZ, but after that whole experience, I would much rather just leave it alone and enjoy the car :)

I know it's probably not what you're after but Plasti-Dip is a great little tool for things like this, did my girlfriend's wheels about 2 months ago, zero fade, zero damage, still looks the way I did it on the day. Just thinking if PC is not an option and you reeeeeally want them blacked wheels, then i do recommend plasti-dip.
