True or Not True

So my wife has been to a couple of different places and was going to get me an automatic car starter (or remote car starter) for Christmas but was told it cannot be installed on the Brz?
True or not True?

FLYFISHR 12-11-2013 06:42 PM

I'm not sure about the automatic but with my manual I have to have the clutch depressed to start.

m.wood0213 12-11-2013 06:50 PM

remote start is not available right now because of the keyless start.

Kfresh23 12-11-2013 06:58 PM

You would think by now they would have made the remote start adaptable to the keyless start as more and more car's are being made with this function! It makes sense, but it's time for a company to get on that!
Thanks for the info though!

I know there is a remote start function with an aftermarket 'push button start" mod. @Stormalong has one. His is also an automatic. It's an FR-S, but I can't imagine there would be any difference.

Edit:
Found it... It's called EasyGo

DIY link.

You can hide a key inside the car permanently if it's a simple transponder I beleive.

But the car won't lock if you do.

There are remote start options for most keyless cars. You just need to find an actual expert on the topic.

I work at FS and our installer laughed when I mentioned this. There are plenty of ways to do it (and properly).

False. OEM remote car starter accessory for keyless start right off Subie Japan's website for the BRZ:

See if japanparts.com can get you that.

Nice! Thanks for all the info everyone. I just needed to dig a little deeper.
Will be checking into it as I am sick of jumping into my car when its minus a million outside!!

tinma 01-07-2014 10:47 PM

i need a car starter!

GodzillaR-35 01-10-2014 06:15 PM

Compustart works on both the manual and the automatic. Granted Manual a lot harder to do. We do them here in Calgary at Country Hills Toyota!

Why would you want a remote starter? It seems like the worst idea ever.

'Hello, cylinder walls. I hate you. Have some of this (and i'll be out in 10 minutes)..'

Well, once you have it you never go back....

I agree you shouldn't start the car much more than a few minutes before you intend to drive. Five max, which is plenty to start warming up the car.
