A/C air intake sprayed with bleach...
 

Hi guys,

I've been having musty smells when I turn on the ac initially and read on a site to spray some diluted bleach into the air vents found under the hood on the drivers side.

What I didn't read right was that I was meant to fill it with 1/3 bleach so I think I used around 40% bleach.

I also read somewhere else you should only use 10% dilution?

I am mainly worried that it might react to materials in the vents or corrode any metals.

Are there any metals in the vents? Could something react with the bleach I sprayed?

I probably used about 8-10 sprays total.

You should really be worried that Bleach can kill you if you ingest enough of it. Make sure you air out your car if you used that much lol.

Why did you take such a drastic step to fix this when it's so much easier if you just turn the AC compressor off for a few minutes before you turn the car off.. This Will allow the air to blow out the moisture so it doesn't cause any musty odors in the car!!
You're probably fine... Remember this simple procedure for next time!

Yep, like stated, just air it out by running the fan on hi for a while. You will know when it's gone ...... cause you won't smell it anymore....;)

You might want to try replacing the in cabin air filter too. If it's plugged up, it can contribute to the vent air smelling really bad.

I usually try to fart after I'm outside the car... Seems to do wonders!

Yeah, but there's a hidden value in storing it in the seat cushion to punish people in the passenger seat adding weight to your ride.

I really didn't have time to air it out as it has been in the repair shop (still is) since I applied it.

My main worry is that the bleach might corrode any metals in that intake system I sprayed it into,

Would there be metals in there (I sprayed into drivers side vent when you pop up hood)? I am hoping they avoid using metals in that area since water gets into the vents through rain etc and that could cause rusting.

Doesn't matter now considering you can't get it out :P

Does anyone know if i can hose this vent down to get the excess bleach out?

Would the water get flushed out? Wouldn't this what happen when it rains?
