Ice on top of snow. Drove around the neighborhood at 15mph and nope. Never going to drive it again in this weather.

LOL it was shorts and flip flop weather here today and it was in the 80s all week. Florida ftw.

Just need the right tires. Took mine out today and with the winters on it can handle anything (unless ground clearance was an issue obviously)

Seeing all this snow makes me really miss living in Utah. :(

This was the only snow my car saw before I stuck it into the garage.

Didn't get much snow but everything is covered in 1/2-3/4" of ice, should make for a nice commute to work in the morning..

Just put the winter tires on Saturday. Drove around Baltimore to run some errands today, worked like a champ. Starting uphill in 1st with zero slippage, could stop and turn easily, traction control never once kicked in. This was in some shitty slush and a few inches of snow. Also have a 70lb bag of sand in the trunk to help out (this is my DD). No problems.

We tend to get snow infrequently in the area, probably a handful of times during the year.

What are the decision factors that warrant getting winter tires? I guess I'm unsure how to access whether I need winter tires or not as my BRZ is my daily.

Not really answering your question, but you could also look into using an all-season tire. Obviously not as good in the snow as a winter tire or as sticky as a summer tire (in the summer of course), but there are some out there that perform really well year-round for our climate. Just another thing to consider...

The main reason I got winter tires was because I wanted sticky summer-only tires for autox.

Summer-only tires aren't supposed to be used in cold weather, and they're completely useless in snow.

So, if I was going to have two sets of tires, I figured one might as well be a dedicated winter tire.

The stock tires will be completely useless in the snow as well (they're technically a summer tire). I got stuck on a steep incline last year with less than an inch of snow on the ground. So if you're planning on daily driving the car all year and you only want one set of tires, all-seasons would probably be your best bet.

Drive a summer tire in freezing weather in the dry. It'll slip like it's in the rain, except it's dry...now imagine that same tire in the wet. Seasonal tires are a good idea, otherwise get a good All-Season - still going to be useless in the snow, but less so than a summer tire.
