Ethanol Free Gas
I went to a gas station in Lake Oswego that sells 100% Ethanol Free 92 Octane Fuel. I suggest anyone that is close to support this business. The guys love to talk about cars and it's only about .50 cents more per gallon to get rid of the ethanol in our engine.

space age at the burnside/powell interchange on the east side has ethanol free gas as well. (clean unleaded on the sign)

It's a shame they are so few and far between. Most are at cardlocks. I posted about this one because of the people working there.

It's hard to find a good gas station these days. Had some punk slam everything on Bries WRX last week at the 212 to 205 chevron... Had to get out and set him straight on how to respect a car.

I must be the only person who doesn't care about crickets. I pretty much pump anywhere except Arco and Space Age. :)

ABSOFRIGINLUTELY!!!!
I have been putting ethanol free gas (I call it absolute gasoline) in my BRZ for a year. It has NO chirps from the HPFP, runs consistently with gobs of power (the car is FI), has no corn in the tank which turns to water when it sits, and is available locally. I thought, I would be an idiot not to use it (I thought). I was right! I'll never go back! Pete |
Costco is so cheap and less than one block away so I go there. I like crickets now as it reminds me of camping.
|
Hmm, not too far out of my way, I'll definitely check it out.

Not available yet, and you may have to go to an airport to get it once it is, but I want some of this (posted it in Random Thoughts a few days ago)
Shell announced that it has developed a 100 Octane gasoline for "piston engines". Admittedly it's been developed for aviation (most small certified aircraft use 100LL fuel now, and the LL (low lead) needs to go away). Still, its pure gasoline with no ethanol in it. And many of the same engines above are certified to run off premium "car gas". Makes you wonder.... http://www.aopa.org/News-and-Video/A...-unleaded.aspx |
Around the Olympia area there are a number of stations with ethanol-free gas like Acme Fuel and a couple other commercial downs. Pure-gas.com has a mobile app, too, which is pretty handy. I decided to switch to ethanol free for the winter only because it's about 33-43 cents more, but it's nice avoiding those god-awful winter blends.

Booze-free gas in my car kills the crickets. I still think it's water content and cavitation.

Cardlock in Junction City is where I go. 91 non-E. The new Chevron on Irving road has 92 pure as well. That is where my friend goes, since he isn't a cardlock member.

I've had crickets pretty much all winter (once the engine is warmed up). I filled up at Dave's Pallisades today and they disappeared after about 3 miles. :w00t:

What the point of me running free ethanol gas when I live in salem.... only good gas that I ever put in my car is premium at cheveron.... is that gas bad??? If it is than all my cars is screw lol....

Chevron isn't bad but has 10% ethanol, which has a tendency to attract water/ turn to water if it sits in your tank. Pure Gasoline won't do that. You can find it in at least 5 places in Salem. Look on the Puregas website. Your car will run better and your fuel pump won't have crickets also. Added bonuses. |
Hate to burst bubbles but after 3 tanks of 100% gas I was still getting crickets.
|
although ethanol content may have a factor in this, i think heat probably has a lot to do with the crickets. i only get mine when the car has been ran hot, especially in the summer. haven't heard my crickets (little to none) at all for the winter thus far.

My buddy's BRZ (who I live with) used to run E10 before I set him straight. He had crickets at the tail end of summer. Hopefully when the heat comes back the crickets wont, but I think the damage may have been done. |

E0 is nearly impossible to find in the Atlanta area and where I have found it, it is 91 octane. Has anyone used any of the additives that claim to mitigate the affects of ethanol?
