The car is hard to park?

So...I think the BRZ is a hard(er) car to parallel park, I can't tell where the back end...ends. I had no issues parallel parking the WRX. :sigh:

cue Snatch quote:
Vinny: Why are we stopped here? What's wrong with that spot?
Tyrone: It's too tight.
Vinny: Too tight? You could land a jumbo f*cking jet in that.

[Tyrone just backed into Franky Four Fingers' van]
Tyrone: I didn't see it there.
Vinny: It's a four ton truck, Tyrone. Its not as if it's a packet of f*cking peanuts, is it?
Tyrone: It was a funny angle.
[All three turn and look back at the truck]
Vinny: It's behind you Tyrone. Whenever you reverse, things come from behind you.

Thoughts?

Try doing it at night with 5% tint on the back window. Makes me want to install a backup camera.

My issue is that the side mirrors don't automatically turn down like on my bimmer... so it's hard to measure how far I'm from the curb to avoid curb rash...

RRnold 12-05-2013 11:26 PM

Is it really that tough? I'm only saying this b/c I had to park an F-250 w/a toy hauler and that was a bitch.

Yes it's easy, try driving a late model truck sometime.

Learned to parallel park in an '01 F150.

It just takes practice to figure out the dimensions of the vehicle from where you sit, I'm sure you had a couple bad parking jobs in the WRX that you've selectively forgotten, just take note of where you think you are and where you actually are every time you get out of the Toyobaru, it'll get more natural over time.

I still leave too much room up front after nearly a year except for the occasional stupid concrete stop.

For me it's not the dimensions of the vehicle but rather the broad turning radius of the car. Even when I cut the wheel full lock it's hard to angle it in. Have to Austin Powers it a bit to get it in there correctly.

It's not that bad since the car is so small. Just adjust your side view mirror to look at the curb or do what I do and just boost yourself up to see.

BRZkitty 12-06-2013 06:16 AM

convex mirrors...... ;)

Exact reason why I only did 20% but 5% is a bit nicer. I just don't want to blindly back up with the 5% at night, especially at a place with barely any light.

It doesn't show the curb but I usually just boost myself up a bit to see the curb.

This is exactly what I do, parallel parking the car is super easy in this car in my opinion. I just sometimes make sure I don't curb the rims so I'm cautious in parallel park perfectly the first time, most of the time I adjust it twice.

I think it's pretty easy, easier than any car i've owned. It's a bit wide I feel like but other than that I usually don't have a problem.

I wanted to get those but the last time I checked you'll lose the heated mirrors option.

wilfredwong 12-06-2013 04:13 PM

I have similar issues and I always get off the car to have a look if I'm not sure how much space I have left.
It might take you more time and look stupid but I'll never want my car get scratches

ru-x 12-06-2013 10:13 PM

It's strange how it feels like the car doesn't want to slip into a parking spot. give it time i suppose.

Vonsamhain 12-18-2013 12:08 AM

Its just practice. I could drift this car into a space blindfolded. Find a parking lot and practice for an hour. You'll learn it dimensions

I might be willing to pay to see this happen.
