Flashing cel wtf ! :/
 

Well this morning i let my car warm up to the first line on the temp gauge just like every other day and when i got out of my neighbor hood i turned my traction off completely and had some drift action since it was raining. Shortly after the check engine light starts to flash so i pulled over and it quit and it was fine but i called toyota and they said if it flashes and keeps flashing your not supposed to drive it all but since mine stopped it should be ok and they want me to take it in to check for codes, we'll see how this goes. :(

the water temp needs to be somewhere near the middle to be at normal operating temps, then oil takes about another 5 minutes to warm up to that. So, I would recommend letting your car warm up longer before going drifting. This may or may not be related to the CEL though.

When i started drifting it was completely warm but they said i had a misfire in cylinder 4, maybe a bad coil?

Did they check? or it was just by word?
do you have any mod?
if you don't, nothing to worry about since warranty will take care of

Yeah, flashing CEL is usually a misfire. No need to panic. If the car misifres again, the CEL will come up solid. There are sometimes phantom misfires detected so if it does not come up solid dont loose sleep over it.

Ok. Thats fne. Just visit dealer if you aren't sure. If I am you, I wouldn't waste my time there. They will not do shit if they cannot reproduce the problem

You guys were right agter 3 hours of sitting there they said "theres nothing we can do", so if it does it again then its serious?

even it does, i still wouldnt worry about it as long as your warranty is not expired yet.
since your only mod is drop in filter, they won't blame on it.

but would it be a ecu problem or something else? i mean it could be a million different things :iono:

Yep, I agree ...... I think the engine just sometimes "farts" but we get a light anyway.....;)

Just think, back in the day, if engines had a CELs, and they lit up everytime the engine misfired .... it would always be ON...!

A simple code reader can be had for less than $100 and is easy to read and can be quite informative..... ;)

Are you sure you had a flashing CEL, or a flashing SLIP light?

Flashing CEL blinks slow, and is right of the tach, while a flashing SLIP is fairly quick, and in the center of the tach.

A lot of people confuse the two.

Flashing CEL? Misfires?

Yes, flashing indicates detected misfire. Could be plugs, or coilpack, or the dreaded DI seal failure.

AS CSG said, make sure it was the cel not the Slip .. Slip will blink on slip even with TCS hard off (hold the button for 5 seconds).

But, if it stored a misfire code....... it likely was not the slip light.
