Dealer Negotiation
Can anyone give me some advice or perhaps a good link for buying a new car. Never bought one from a dealer yet and my girlfriend is buying her first car soon. I need to home some skills as well so I can negotiate a good deal when I can finally get my BRZ. Thanks everybody.

Be ready to walk at anytime and be sure to take the time to read all the fine print before signing anything. Shopping towards the end of the month can sometimes be helpful because the dealers really want to move the cars then.

Go in with your number in mind.... If they can't make it happen walk straight out the door.

Thanks guys. I appreciate it

I'm the same way, my father (used to be a salesman) went with me. He says it's a big game with them, so we went in with two numbers. The number we wanted for my truck and stated we wouldn't go one dollar less or we'd walk. The price we wanted the car for and no added dealer nonsense to jack the cost up. (dealer tried to add $800 for the chrome stick on, rear diffuser, and trunk mat)
I agree with the don't be afraid to walk. We walked out when the dude came back with completely different numbers and he called back the next day saying we had a deal. |
It's very irony how the sales vs customers work. Dealers know customers will cut the price, but they won't. However at the end, the strong customers always win.

Why ? Because I asked way too low, and I know they only made 750$ for that sale. The lower the profit, the harder for a dealer to sell it to you. Hence, you have to go from one to another to see who can put up with that So, do your research, keep it firm, and reasonable. You will get the deal you think is fair, but it is not as simple as "oh, you are not selling ? I am walking" "no...no...please don't walk, let's make it happen" It is not always like that Anyways, good luck with the new car, and the price |
Don't negotiate -- just call me :)

Also I don't have great credit, my girlfriend has not really built any credit yet, and her parents are not citizens so they don't have any credit. Any suggestions or help? I feel like that will be the most difficult hurdle as well.

Therefore, anything below invoice without the manufacturer rebate will affect their profit. I was getting 1250 off invoice, assuming 2000 hold back, that is 750 profit. I could drive 5 hours to get a deal of 1750 below invoice, but for another 500 bucks, I would rather buy it local. Generally, they normally offer u 500 below invoice before rebate, and that is most of the time good. Therefore, if u r telling me u could say a simple verse " no thank " and they have to put up with you ? It s not gonna happen |
