Thank you Ichi.

Kazuto Nakamura!

Bristecom 04-25-2012 08:04 AM

I think this gives you a much better idea of how much both Toyota and Subaru were involved in this. This is an inspiring story and it makes you realize that this car is truly something special.

JFC 04-25-2012 08:29 AM

So Subaru make a top video and Toyota spill this out. Come on Toyota wheres the video :paddle:

Did anyone count how many times Subaru mentioned "Low Center of Gravity"

It was in every second or third sentence almost, to the point i was bored of reading it.

Spd229 04-25-2012 09:13 AM

Look forward to the pdf! Thanks Ichi!

ROJ 04-25-2012 09:27 AM

Thanks a lot for this!

Ikaros 04-25-2012 10:08 AM

This should make it clear to people who are choosing sides and saying that their company contributed more etc. Toyota and Subaru put a lot of effort into this project. They both had strengths and weakness and were there for each other to compensate for each other's weakness.

Also, I didn't realize how much time they spent on the auto. Man if I knew they spent that much time and effort into the auto, I would not have changed my order to a manual.

BReeZ 04-25-2012 10:15 AM

I don't think I have ever read such an inspiring story about the development of a car. Just like the Subaru video this is great marketing.

SupremeGunman 04-25-2012 11:15 AM

Anyone know if the hardcopy will be available at the dealers?

Kind of. I've gotten a few dealership brochures from japan that are really nicely laid out as opposed just a print and staple.

yeah that annoyed the crap out of me as well.
Made it seem like they were just robots reading from a piece of paper, and not having any actual passion for the project lol.

OldSkool86 04-25-2012 03:56 PM

Damn good read! Awesome!

Thank you @ichitaka05 for making this available for download!
It is a good read.

Having my GT86 parked outside, ready to go for a drive, makes me feel truly privileged.
If I could shake the hand of every designer and engineer involved in making it, I would.
And I would thank them all sincerely for creating such a lovely and incredibly rewarding car available at a price I could afford.

Mikem53 05-12-2014 08:58 AM

Great read! Thanks for sharing!

ichitaka05 05-12-2014 11:04 AM

Wow coming back from the dead lol

It might be old news for some, but if anyone haven't read it or DL the PDF, it's worth reading :)

wheelhaus 05-12-2014 12:24 PM

I still occasionally find people arguing over whether the car was designed/engineered by Toyota or Subaru, and I direct them to this thread. I think it should be a sticky because this isn't just a cool car, it's got history in it's veins.

Bristecom 05-13-2014 02:38 AM

Yep, this article contains excellent information on the development of the car. Thanks again for uploading this. It is definitely sticky-worthy material.

dominicblake 06-19-2014 05:00 AM

The 2013 Scion FR-S takes Toyota's youth-oriented brand into an entirely new direction, one that's notably sportier than anything Scion has previously offered. This rear-wheel-drive coupe is all about balance, not sheer numbers. Size and weight have been kept in check, while a low provides nimble handling. Development was a joint effort between Toyota and Subaru, and you'd be hard pressed to spot the differences between the Scion FR-S and its Subaru equivalent, the BRZ. Mechanically speaking, they're identical twins, with only a few subtle exterior differences to distinguish one from the other. 240w led flood light

Why is there a link to a flood light?

NOHOME 06-23-2014 04:17 PM

"Built by Passion Not by Committee"

"Two car companies...."

Did nobody else get this?!

That is the funniest most oxymoronic two sentences that have eve been strung together.

ALL cars get built by a group of committees. In this case,we had two companies worth of committees.

I could go back and dig up the spiel on the Miata from when it first came out, it would ready pretty much word for word. As a matter of fact it might be the same book with the word Miata exchaned for FRS/BRZ

nimble 11-26-2015 07:48 PM

@ichitaka05 where can I get a hard copy?

ottoyu34 11-29-2015 05:41 PM

Saved this during the time I was considering the car, and finally sat down and gave it a read.

What an inspirational piece of material. Since the day behind the wheel of my very own FRS, I can sense that the overwhelming amount of R&D has undergone for this vehicle. This just double sure that I have picked the right platform.

Would like a PDF if that is possible. Thanks!

FWIW. link "FRS Story" to PDF is in post 26 dated 1/6/13.

This was a great read.
Really tragic how the car was ultimately received by the clueless car culture.
