Request: Dash Cam install w/ pics of A-Pillar/headliner

Hi all,

Does anyone have access to a DIY what shows how to route the wiring from the cam to the glove box? Typical methods I've heard is routing through A-Pillar - any details of how to accomplish this cleanly? Quick search didn't result in anything that was super clear...

Thanks!

I just did mine as you described. Seeing as you're local I could stop by and show you how I wired it. Pretty easy if you don't wire from your car battery to the dash cam, instead using the 12V in the glove.

The key is to get down real low and see that there's an opening from the glove to the side of passenger panel.

Once you fish out of the glove, keep fishing out of that metal panel.

Pull the a pillar carefully using your fingers from the photo.

Continue fishing across to the final resting place of your dash cam.

Nice thanks for the photos! Just ordered my cam so I'll give it a shot ad you described. If I really can't figure it out maybe I'll take you up on your offer + bring brews :)

@drewbot did you have to pop off the a-pillar cover?

Yeah. Peel off slowly, use your fingers to pop it off initially. Make sure when you close it in place carefully as the wire may interfere with the ridges that hold the pillar cover in.

Cool, any risk of the airbag deploying? Haha

Once you open it you'll see there's space. Just don't touch the airbag.

I survived lol

husband did it through the glovebox, but never opened up the a pillar cover......we just pushed the wire in between the glass, and the roof, and a pillar, and it stays there

Was fairly install as @drewbot described. Only issue was that when I first opened the pillar I heard something very very small come loose and fall down the slope of the half opened pillar. Any ideas what it might be? As far as I can tell all the plastic harnesses were still attached.

Most likely one of the 20+ plastic clips that keep the pillar cover intact...

The same thing happened to me when I tried to install that stupid LED flasher relay (I gave up, waiting until spring to install my Tom's anyway). One of the clips bent off, however, after 2000+ km of driving there are no increased rattles....

Isn't the flasher unit in the driver side footwell? Or is there another hidden by the pillar?

It's in the footwell. However you remove the lower panel below the steering wheel. One of my clips broke but luckily screws hold the panel in.
