What was you close second option before deciding on 86/BRZ?

I think mine was a Golf Gti (although missus was more towards audi A5).
I chose 86 mainly due to looks, toyota reliability, really low driving position.

There was no second option.

I was looking at the Genesis, and was ready to buy. But then I heard about the GT86 and held off my purchase for two more years!

So yeh, no second option!

I was looking at used EVO 8's, S15 Silvia's or R34 GTR's.

I couldn't find many clean examples though and decided I wanted something brand new with a warranty.

You should've got the Audi. Just kidding!!

I actually just bought my second opinion in addition to the BRZ:

2003 Audi RS 6. I was questioning the need for two lightweight RWD coupes as I already had the MR2 and was just out of leasing an S4. The RS 6 was priced similarly to the BRZ but at the time I wasn't in a position to own both. Thankfully, now I am! I can have my two lightweight RWD's, one new and one old, and have my big 450hp (soon-to-be 520hp) luxury cruiser too! Life is good :)

Also considered and test-drove the Lotus Elise, Nissan 370Z, Porsche Cayman, Honda S2000, and Mazda MX-5 PRHT.

I was trading in my 4th Mustang, so a new Mustang GT was on the short list. I also contemplated a 370Z. And, I actually thought I would end up with a Honda Accord V6 2dr Coupe. I liked it well enough, but it didn't provide the excitement the BRZ does.

I actually had multiple options. I knew I wanted to buy a brand new car so my choices were: Scion FR-S, Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8 R-Spec, Ford Focus ST, Mazdaspeed3, and the Nissan 370Z. Big list of nice cars. However, I've been into drifting my whole life and knew that the FR-S was really the only choice.

2011/12 Camaro SS... used...still cost more than the frs.

I was shopping around the 2013 Focus ST and the 2013 Genesis Coupe 2.0T R-spec alongside the Toyobaru. I made the right choice.
