Insurance for the FR-S

I know that this topic is over at the BRZ section, but I was wondering, has anyone tried to get a quote for the FR-S from their current insurance company? Someone posted a VIN of a BRZ and I emailed this to my agent to see if he would be able to get me a quote. Just waiting on a reply now.

*EDIT*

If anyone wants the VIN number that was posted on the BRZ side it was REMOVED

mattles 04-23-2012 02:18 PM

just got quoted nearly $2000 for a 6month policy through AllState. Full coverage, $500 deducs, glass, rental, etcetc. That works out to roughly $320 per month, lolz.

Needless to say I wont be going with allstate. Waiting to hear back from my real insurance agent so I expect to pay about half what I was quoted with allstate.

Tainen 04-23-2012 02:36 PM

age/location/marital status/ticket history are really necessary data points when posting how much you got qouted...

mattles 04-23-2012 02:43 PM

So I got quoted $2000/6mo AllState, Phoenix AZ, 25yr, single, 1 speeding ticket on a 2013 Scion FR-S.

Currently paying $1400/12mo for full coverage, 500$ deduc, glass, rental, etc on a 2004 Mazdaspeed Miata.

joshuabowman 04-23-2012 02:47 PM

ok I was quoted $1002 for 6 months. I'm 33, Quote was for KY, married, 1 ticket, 2 accidents, and USAA was the company. Also that was with 100 deductible for comp/coll, rental reinburstment, accident forgiveness, uninsured and underinsured motorist

mattles 04-23-2012 03:03 PM

^^^ booo, hiss. USAA doesnt count because most of the general populace isnt elligible for it. :|

styl3z 04-23-2012 03:06 PM

Anyone from canada get a quote yet? I'll be calling a couple of insurance companies after I get off work and I'll post if I get any luck.

Probably won't be low as you Americans :(

How's everyone getting quotes? I wanna check a quote for me :/
Do I just call and ask for a quote for a scion FRS?:iono:

mattles 04-23-2012 03:31 PM

^^ most online forms do not have these cars in the system yet, you have to call your agent or an insco to get an approximate quote.

Age? Tickets? Accidents? How many vehicles was this with, just the frs?

33, no tickets or moving violation and currently my Tacoma is the only vehicle on the policy. The lady mentioned that it was subject to change

I really don't think the BRZ VIN should have been posted in this thread. I'm curious, too, to know what the insurance costs for an FR-S, but since you posted that VIN here many quotes will be for a BRZ and the posters won't necessarily indicate as such. BRZ quotes should go in the BRZ thread and the only quotes that should go here are FR-S quotes for clarity's sake. Someone should go find an FR-S VIN and post it here.

Jayp 04-23-2012 04:05 PM

Wow. Most of these quotes are pretty shocking. If these range of quotes really are what we'll be paying, I may have to reconsider buying the FR-S. I'll try and get my own quote later this week.

Understood. Will remove.

Not trying to double post, just got off the phone with my agent (that sounds funny) and he quoted me 332.43 / 6 month premium / added $55.41 from what i am paying right now. Right now I have a 99 Mitsubishi Eclipse and a 2012 Mini Cooper hard top. so it would be an additional $55.41 from what i pay right now. This is with the FRS added as a weekend car. Also this was going off of the MSRP for the FR-S that was provided to me by a person that I was chatting with on the Scion site, "JSer: I would be happy to provide you with the MSRP. The price is $25,300."

$69.36 mo. USAA (which you can get if an immediate relative was in the service, I have it since my wife's father was a Marine). 100/250K comp./collision $500 deductible but then I'm an old fart over 60 with clean record, finally a benefit of being old.

mattles 04-23-2012 07:17 PM

Just got another quote:
Costco/Ameriprise 2013 Scion FRS
25yr/o, single, one speeding ticket
PHX AZ (15k/30k/10k coverage)
added full glass, 500 deducs, rental, towing
$1170 for 6 months
Not bad at all.

That sounds about right. I've been with Wawanesa for over 6 years and they have always had the best rates.

Nobody can touch Wawanesa and among the high price of living for CA, it's good to know we can catch at least 1 break.

I was with USAA and went to Wawanesa and nobody can touch their rates.

786/year or 65/month and it's just a little more than my truck. Those in CA or Oregon who want a good insurance company and have a clean record, I highly recommend getting a quote from them.

Big T 04-23-2012 07:41 PM

$860 for 6months, 2 drivers (me and wife). This also includes full coverage on my Xb and liability on a 91 probe. 28yrs old, Geico.

Please my post about insurance prices for BRZ and FRS: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...&postcount=145

Hope this helps :)

Is everyone just calling to get quotes without a VIN? If so so that I can call and get a quote as well and post age, location, an driving record. Thanks

gabeh 04-23-2012 08:26 PM

The real question for me is how much more the FRS might cost to insure compared to a similarly priced car such as a new Accord. When i get my VIN I'll try to get those figures.

Regardless of the VIN, the model of the car and your background is enough information for them to proceed with a quote w/fine print. Though it might sound odd but your driving history, credit history and demographics play a bigger role on your premium.

When I called today, I said the car was a Scion F as in Frank, R as in Roger and S as in Sam. I told her it was a coupe, how big was the engine was and she was able to proceed from there.

Oh okay sounds good. Looks like my days will consist of getting quotes. Thanks:D

Do you really think 15/30/15 is going to be enough coverage if you get into a bad accident? State minimum here in CT is 20/40/20 and even that is a joke.

mattles 04-24-2012 12:33 PM

^^ opinions aside, that was just a basic minimum coverage quote. This is not a debate about what coverage you should get, merely a thread for estimating coverage costs for the Scion FR-S.

By the way, 15/30/10 is the state minimum in Arizona IIRC.

An FR-S VIN was posted in another thread by Hawaiian. It's JF1ZNAA14D1701586 if I deciphered his tiny printout correctly.

Quoted $500 for 6 onths, up from 350 with a 2004 xB. 31 yrs old, Progressive, clean driving record.

lookitschloe 04-25-2012 03:51 PM

Wow, my insurance is so expensive compared to everyone else's on here.

21st Century
Los Angeles
26 years old
Mom and I have clean driving records

Current coverage:
Comprehensive (I have a LOT of insurance. hmm.. maybe too much.)
2005 Corolla (mom primary driver/me secondary/insured in an LA suburb), 2005 tC (me primary driver/insured in city of LA)
$1122/6 mo ($187/mo)

Estimated quotes:
Added FRS as commuter/everyday vehicle, keeping the other two cars:
$1770/6 mo.

if no tC: $1208/6 mo ($201/mo).

I think we're all learning that adding the FRS won't be too much higher than our current cars. That's great news. And kind of crazy that I can insure a brand new car for roughly $14/mo more than a 2005 car. (Not that I am complaining!)

Are you male or female, cuz those rates seem so high!

I know! Female. I have $100k in collision / $300k medical, $500 deductible, uninsured motorist, car rental, more stuff... and imagine this WITHOUT GDD.

Are males higher or females higher? While I was on the phone with the representative, I asked if being male or female made a difference because I actually heard that males are more expensive to insure, and she said she didn't know but didn't think so. Can you even do that? Is that discrimination? Wait, when you turn 25 your premium automatically goes down. So does race count too? And weight and height and hair color? Where does it stop... sorry off topic.

I thought it had to do with me living in LA because when I moved from the 'burbs to LA there was a marked increase in my premium but there are a few people in LA here without these high quotes. I think I win "highest premium with a clean record."
